Married Too (a Ranma1/2 FanFic)
Episode 1: We're what?
Draft 1998-06-23
**********************

[Opening scene, Akane and Ranma are walking home from
school: background street noises]

AKANE:	So do you think we're going to have a surprise
birthday party?

RANMA:	Don't know.

AKANE:	Come on, you've got to admit our dad's are acting
pretty weird.

RANMA:	I guess. It's just that I've never had a birthday
party. Are they supposed to be surprises?

AKANE:	You *never* had a birthday party?

RANMA:	Well... I think I remember one when I was really
little.

AKANE:	Oh... well, with both of us having our birthday's
tomorrow, and it being a Saturday, it just seems like a
party makes sense.

RANMA:	Yeah?

AKANE:	You're so dense sometimes!

[Akane whacks Ranma on the shoulder: Sound of someone being
hit lightly]

RANMA:	(quietly) Ouch.

AKANE:	Anyway, there's no preparation for a normal party, so
a surprise party makes sense. Get it?

RANMA:	Sure. A party *would* be kinda fun, even if I have to
share it with a tomboy like you.

AKANE:	(aloud) Baka! (thinking) Hmm, at least he didn't
call me 'uncute' this time.

[Scene transition: Background street sound fad out and
theirs the sound of a squeaky hinged gate opening and
closing. Begin fade in sound of a woman ranting and raving
in the background.]

AKANE & RANMA:	We're home!

AKANE:	Wow! Whoever that woman is, she's really mad!

RANMA:	Probably someone who tracked Happosai here.

[Sounds of shoes being removed]

AKANE:	Guess we better go see what's going on.

[Sound of woman's yelling becomes louder, until we can make
out words]

WOMAN:	How could you husband! I can forgive your dragging my
son away for ten years, I can forgive not hearing from you
for over a year, I can even forgive your taking him to that
evil training ground. BUT HOW COULD YOU NOT TELL HIM!

RANMA:	(whispered) Mom?

GEMNA:	Now Nodoka dear, please put down that sword.

WOMAN (Nodoka):	And you Soun! You're no better, leaving your
daughter in the dark like this...

RANMA:	(quietly) Mom?

SOUN:	W-We would have told them.

NODOKA:	*When?* Their seventeenth birthday is tomorrow!

RANMA:	(much louder) Mom!

[A moments silence followed by the sound of a sword dropped
to the floor and the relieved sighs of Soun and Gemna]

NODOKA:	Ranma? Akane?

[Nodoka runs over to the couple and hugs them both: Sound of
running feet. Followed by hug sound cue, whatever that is.]

RANMA:	(strained) Mom...

AKANE:	(strained) ...can't breath.

NODOKA:	Ranma, it's been so long, I'm so happy to see you
again.

[Nodoka gives Akane hug: hug sound cue].

NODOKA:	Akane-chan! I haven't seen you for years. You've
grown so! You're not a little girl with skinned knees
anymore.

RANMA:	(quietly) But she's still a tomboy.

AKANE:	I heard that Ranma!

[Sound of mallet hitting head]

NODOKA:	Ummm....

AKANE:	Auntie Saotome, it's nice to see you. But... well we
overheard your, umm, conversation, with our fathers. Is
there something we should know?

NODOKA:	Yes, there's something your fathers must tell you...
now.

RANMA:	Hey! They're gone.

NODOKA:	Hmph! Cowards! Well, I guess it's up to me.

RANMA:	What's this all about mom?

NODOKA:	It's about your engagement, and your marriage.

RANMA:	Aww, mom, not you too! It's bad enough pop and Mr.
Tendo always trying to get us to get married right away.

NODOKA:	You don't understand Ranma, I'm not trying to
convince you to get married.

AKANE:	(a bit worried) You... don't want us to get married?

NODOKA:	That's not it Akane-chan. You see, you're *already*
married to Ranma.

[Sound of two bodies hitting the floor]

NODOKA:	Ranma? Akane? Oh dear, they didn't take that as well
as I hoped.

[=== BREAK: Insert commercial here ===]

[Scene start: Akane is in bed with Nabiki tending to her.
Sounds of water being rung out into a bowl and some slight
movement in the bed]

AKANE:	(quietly, obvious pain) Oooh. What happened?

NABIKI:	You're awake! It's about time.

AKANE:	Nabiki? What am I doing in my room?

NABIKI:	What do you remember?

AKANE:	I was talking to Ranma's mother and she said... I
though she said...

NABIKI:	I think congratulations are in order.

AKANE:	*NO!* How could we be married? You think I'd forget
something like that?

NABIKI:	Well, it happened when you were four, so it wouldn't
be hard to forget.

AKANE:	Four! You can't get married when you're four!

[Akane jumps out of bed: sound of squeaking bed springs
followed by footsteps]

AKANE:	Where's Ranma's Mother?

NABIKI:	With Ranma in the guest room, but...

[Akane leaves room and goes to Ranma's room: Sound of door
opening and closing (cutting off Nabiki's comment) footsteps
down the hall, sound of a door sliding back.

AKANE:	(angry) Okay Auntie, who's *stupid* idea was it to
try to get us married when we were four? It isn't even legal
to get married at that age!

NODOKA:	(calmly) Well, it was your mothers idea.

[Sound of Ranma stirring in the background. A few mutters
and such]

AKANE:	(still angry, but uncertain now) M-My mother?

NODOKA:	As to the second point, we had to get a variance
from a judge so we could hold the ceremony when you were
four. It hasn't actually taken effect yet.

RANMA:	Why have the ceremony so early?

AKANE:	Yes. Why? Especially when it hasn't even taken effect
yet?

NODOKA:	You're mother so wanted to see you two get married
before she died. She was already sick then, and we just
couldn't refuse her request.

AKANE:	(calm and somewhat sad) I'm sorry Auntie. I didn't
understand.

NODOKA:	That's all right Akane-chan. It must be a bit of a
shock. Of course if your fathers had the courage to tell you
earlier... (sighs).

AKANE:	Well, we know now. Thank you for telling us Auntie.

NODOKA:	Oh, Akane?

AKANE:	Yes?

NODOKA: You might as well start calling me 'mother'.

AKANE:	(small laugh) Maybe I should wait until we're
officially married.

NODOKA:	If you want Akane-chan, but that's only another
seven hours or so.

[Sound of two bodies falling to the floor. Should be exactly
the same sound as the previous time]

NODOKA:	Oh dear, not again.

[Scene break. Fade into sounds of eating dinner]

SOUN:	Well you two, it looks like tomorrow is the big day.

RANMA:	(disgruntled) Yeah, whatever.

AKANE:	(sarcastic) Wonderful. Go to bed one night and
suddenly wake up married. Every girls dream wedding.

NODOKA:	Well, we could hold a ceremony tomorrow. What do you
think Kasumi?

KASUMI:	That's a wonderful idea! It will help them feel more
like they're married.

AKANE:	(sounding a little excited) A real ceremony? With a
wedding Kimono and everything?

KASUMI:	Of course. I'm sure mother's wedding Kimono will
fit, with a few small alterations. And I think daddy has
something Ranma could wear.

AKANE:	Could I invite anyone?

NABIKI:	Better not. If Ranma's or your other suitors hear
about this they'll make trouble.

KASUMI:	I'm sure a few close friends would be all right, as
long as they are willing to keep it a secret.

AKANE:	Umm. Well just my two closest friends from school
then.

RANMA:	Yeah, I guess Daisuke and Hiroshi can keep a secret.

NABIKI:	(snickers) And Dr. Tofu of course.

KASUMI:	That's a good idea, he's such a nice man.

NODOKA:	It's settled then. We'll have a ceremony tomorrow
at, say, two o'clock.

GEMNA:	Soun old friend, it looks like tonight is Ranma's
last night of bachelorhood, maybe we should take him out for
a little party.

SOUN:	A wonderful idea old friend! A last fling before...

NODOKA:	Husband!

KASUMI:	Daddy, really.

AKANE:	Don't you dare!

SOUN:	Umm, yes. Well, I think a small celebration is in
order?

NODOKA:	Very well.

AKANE:	(hesitantly) All right.

SOUN:	What do you say Ranma?

RANMA:	I guess so.
