SEASON TWO SOUNDBITES 2.01 In The Shadow of Two Gunmen Part I - This is the age of Jed Bartlet, my friend. You're gonna open your mouth and lift houses off the ground. Whole houses, clear off the ground. (Leo McGarry.) 2.02 In The Shadow of Two Gunmen Part II - We don't know what the injury count is yet (President Josiah Bartlet.) 2.03 The Midterms - Do you think you're becoming obsessed with this race? (CJ.) 2.04 In This White House - The president likes smart people who disagree with him. He wants to hear from you. The president's *asking* you to serve. (Leo McGarry.) 2.05 And It's Surely to Their Credit - The President's way too moderate for your taste. On affirmative action, capital gains, public schools, free trade - you left a lucrative practice in Chicago with a seven-figure income. It wasn't out of duty? (Ainsley Hayes) 2.06 The Lame-Duck Congress - It's like running the country with Barnum, Baily, and his sister Sue. Would it be possible for only two of them to speak at once? Charlie! Could I have a couple of asprin? Or a weapon to kill people with? (President Josiah Bartlet.) 2.07 The Portland Trip - Can't great oratory inspire a new change? (Sam Seaborn.) 2.08 Shibboleth - "Well over three and a half centuries ago, strengthened by faith and bound by a desire for liberty, a small band of pilgrims left their homes to seek out a place in the new world where they could worship according to their own beliefs." And now I get to go out there and proclaim this a national day of Thanksgiving. This is a great job. (President Josiah Bartlet.) 2.09 Galileo - We have, at our disposal, a captive audience of schoolchildren. Some of them don’t go to the black board and raise their hand ‘cause they think they’re gonna be wrong. I think you should say to these kids you think you get it wrong sometimes, you should come down here and see how the big boys do it. I think you should tell them you haven’t given up hope, and that it may turn up, but in the meantime, you want NASA to put its best people in the room, and you want them to start building Galileo VI. Some of them will laugh, and most of them won’t care, but for some, they might honestly see that it’s about going to the blackboard and raising your hand. (beat) And that’s the broader theme.(CJ Cregg) 2.10 Noel - He thinks I may have an eating disorder. And a fear of rectangles. That's not unusual, is it? (Josh Lyman) 2.11 The Leadership Breakfast - We're not gonna come up with a solution in 90 minutes. But we have the principals in a room with no cameras, the leaders of the land. And not to talk about how we're gonna approach the minimum wage, the patient's bill of rights, tax relief and education in the legislative agenda that's about to begin is a criminally neglegent and cowardly refusal to do what we were all sent here to do. (Toby Ziegler.) 2.12 The Drop-In - By the way, the words you're looking for are "Oh, good grief." (President Josiah Bartlet.) 2.13 Bartlet's Third State of the Union - But when the numbers are crunched and the polls are taken, I think everyone here realizes that the truly important thing is that I changed my hair. (Abby Bartlet.) 2.14 The War at Home - We never thought someone might try a strategy so sophisticated it's an entire generation beyond "Hey, look, your shoelaces are untied!"? Is that how I just lost nine guys to a damn street gang with a hand radio? They LURED us there so that they could kill nine American soldiers! (President Josiah Bartlet.) 2.15 Ellie - All you ever had to do to make me proud is come home at the end of the day. (President Josiah Bartlet.) 2.16 Somebody's Going to Emergency, Somebody's Going to Jail - It was high treason and it mattered a great deal. This country's an idea, and one that's lit the world for two centuries, and treason against that idea's not just a crime against the living. This ground holds the graves of people who've DIED for that idea, who gave what Lincoln called the last full measure of devotion. Of fidelity...It's just that there are certain things you're sure of. Like longitude and latitude. (Sam Seaborn.) 2.17 The Stackhouse Filibuster - There are so many days here where you can’t imagine anything good will happen, buried under the black fog of partisanship, and self-promotion, and stupidity, and a brand of politics that’s just plain mean…And if politics bring out the worst in people, maybe people bring out the best. (CJ Cregg/Sam Seaborn/Josh Lyman) 2.18 17 People – 2.19 Bad Moon Rising – It really boils down to this: I’m gonna tell you a story and then I want you to tell me if I’ve engaged 18 people in a massive criminal conspiracy in order to defraud the public and win a presidential election. (President Josiah Bartlet) 2.20 The Fall’s Gonna Kill Ya – 2.21 18th and Potomac – There was an accident at 18th and Potomac. Mrs. Landingham was driving her car back here. A car ran the light, it ran it at a high rate of speed…She’s dead. (Charlie Young) 2.22 Two Cathedrals – Yes, I lied. It was a sin, I’ve committed many sins. Have I displeased you, you feckless thug?
