Waking moments (2001)
Sleep is now a distant stranger
That forgets to visit me.
Maybe I’m not a good enough hostess
Can’t say I disagree.
The days have grown longer
As the dreams have come less.
I guess the word goes around
Everyone knows I am a mess.
All these waking moments
Terrify me so.
The more time I have to think
The more my mind does go.
I can’t stand my imagination
Because it doesn’t listen to me.
She does whatever she pleases
And doesn’t care who sees.
The thinking and the thinking
Seem to go on forever.
And yet sleep will not come
It’s trying to be clever.
