without your request for help, and it was while writing my
Requrium review that this idea came to me.
What is it with hallways, Mulder? Almost every defining moment in
our relationship that we have had was in a hallway.
When Penny died, I stepped out of the hospital room to tell you
her death had made me realize that I wouldn't let the cancer beat
me. You told me that the truth would save us.
You kissed my forehead, and I smiled. We walked through a new
door.
Two years ago, I stood at the entrance of your apartment. I told
you I was leaving. But you wouldn't give up on me. You caught me
before I was able to run, and said that I saved you, that I made
you a whole person. Our lips brushed. After that day, we saw a
second door.
Earlier this year, my black heels echoed in on the ground as I
made my way to you. I let down my strong barriers right there in
front of you. I stripped myself naked, and confessed to you that
I didn't know what to believe. You told me that you knew. You
believed in us. I cupped your face, graced your forehead with my
lips, and ran my fingers across your mouth in a wordless promise
that I would never stop believing either. We grabbed a hold
of each other's hands, and walked over another threshold.
Yesterday, we were again in a hallway. You didn't want me to go
back. You said that you didn't want to risk losing me. I enfolded
myself into you, and told you I wouldn't let you go alone. We
have seen our last door, Mulder. I can feel it. We are home.
