Density
 

To use the density pyramid, merely cover up the unknown quantity and perform the necessary calculation.  For instance, if the density is the unknown, cover the D and you'll see M over V.  That means that in order to calculate density, you'd have to divide the mass of the substance by its volume.  Conversely, if the mass is unknown, cover the M and you'll see V  D.  That means that in order to find the mass of a substance, you need to multiply its volume by its density.
 

Ex.  A chunk of metal has a mass of 23.72 g and a volume of 12.3 cm3.  What is the density of this substance?
 

cover D, you get M over V so the mass needs to be divided by its volume.....

23.72g divided by 12.3cm3 is approximately 2 g/cm3
