Halloween II starts out right after John Carpenter's Halloween. The very same night. While Carpenter turned down to direct this film, he did in fact write the script for it. Laurie has just stabbed Michael Myers. She quickly runs to the next bedroom where she gets Tommy and Lindsey:

"I want you to go down to the Mickensey's house......I want  you to call the police and get them over here.......go now."

Tommy and Lindsey, scared to death, run out of the Wallace house screaming bloody murder. Meanwhile, Loomis is patroling the neighborhood trying to find his psychotic patient. After walking a pretty good bit, he spots the kids running out of the house.
Inside the house, Laurie rests as the police are on their way. But from behind......comes....the boogeyman. We see a glimpse of The Shape as he is slowly making his way to Laurie from behind. Laurie begins to stagger to the other room, when suddenly, Michael begins to strangle her. But Loomis is now in the room as he unloads 6 shots fromhis .357 mag. Michael is hit with such impact, he goes flying out the nearby balcony and lands on the ground.  Loomis checks on Laurie to see if she is alright and looks outside to see the Shape gone.

"What that the Boogeyman?" "As a matter of fact......that was...."

Loomis makes his way to the front yard where there is no sign of Michael Myers anywhere. He goes to check the spot where Michael landed, and all he finds is a small pile of blood.

"Whats going on out here?" "Call the sheriff.....tell him I shot.....tell him he's on the lose...." "Is this some kind of prank? I've trick or treated to death tonight." ".........you don't know what death is."

    ENTER HALLOWEEN II.
While the movie is truly, gory and lives up to being a great horror movie, it lacks. While no one expected the movie to be anything like the orignial classic, there were some pros and cons of the movie.

PROS

* Laurie and Loomis- Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtus reprise their roles as the famous Dr. Loomis and Laurie Strode.  While it was reported Jamie Lee had second thoughts about returning, thank God she did. I could not even imagine how another actress would replay Laurie. Dr. Loomis, steals the show in this movie. Donald Pleasence is, nonetheless, Dr. Loomis himself. Donald delivers a very conviencing Dr. Loomis. His dialogue is so good in this movie...."You don't know what death is", which is in the opening scene, promises a very entertaining and suspenseful film. Laurie's lines are as well, are brillantly wrote: "....why won't he die?"

* Memorable Dialogue & Scenes- "I can't do that I got orders!" "Those orders have changed." "Dr. Loomis, we are under orders from the governor!" "What you usually do fire a warning shot, eh?" **BOOM**.....**SHRIEK***

"......Michael......**Michael tilts his head in confusion....."Michael stop!" *BOOM BOOM....Michael cries blood.

* The Dark Mood and Theme- The complete atmosphere was indeed, different than the previous Halloween film. Different directors and different director of photography crew members have different visual ideas. While most favor Carpenter dark mood, Rosenthial in this movie, tried to keep it like in Halloween, Rosenthial's creepiness of dark shadows in alleys made the audience that more scared.

* Creepy scenes (see Doctor Mixture for details)-  "Dr. Mixture.......Dr. Mixture, its Laurie Strode." The Dr. Mixture scene, is by far, one of the most scariest and creepiest scenes in horror movie history. The Shape proves here, why he is called The Shape. The death scenes are very gory and more detailed as well. It seems Michael gets creative in every new sequel that comes along. Michael also has a hobby of hanging his victims. He even tilts his head, in aw of his art. The hot tub scene proves the SEX rule of horror movies, is not to break. While in a way, it is kind of a cheesey scene, it is very well wrote.  Michael's shape as he watches the couple make love, from behind, is classic.

*Climatic ending- "Its time, Michael....." It was plain and simple, that Carpenter knew that producer's would want to ressurect Michael Myers for more pointless sequels. I applaud Carpenter in writing an ending, to where it is almost impossible to bring the killer back. Blinding him with 2 shots to the eyes, and blowing the son of a bitch up not only makes a climax for the film, but sets the record straight, Michael will not be coming back. At least not easy.

CONS

* Too gory- While Halloween helped set a standard for the many horror movies that would follow in its footsteps, Friday the 13th introduced over the top movie gore for the horror genre. Halloween II tried way too hard to gore the movie up. The nurse that dripped a room full of blood scene, Ben Tramer autopsy scene, The needle in the eye, and the hot tub scene, all were way too gory. While it does make audience's skin crawl, what made the orignial John Carpenter's Halloween such a classic was the mood, creepiness, and suspense. Michael is not Jason. Jason kills on revene and rage for his mother's death. Michael, is killing for a goal. While he has a hobby of hanging his victims, Michael goes in for the kill and gets it over with. A knife to the throat, a knife to the gut will do the job. Michael only kills if you are in the way of his path that leads to his sister. Michael was killing neighborhood girls that talked on phones. Pointless.

* Weak story- John Carpenter's Halloween was a classic. What made it a classic was it WAS SCARY. It did not drag on into a long and boring storyline. It was a horror movie. A horror movie. This was not Days of Our Lives. Carpenter even stated; "What makes a good horror movie is......
1) It scares you
2) it scares you and
3) It scares you.
What makes a good movie is
1) Theres a good story
2) A good story and
3) A good story."
Most critics, fans, and audiences would agree with Carpenter. Halloween II while had a lot of good things about it, did lack in story, Even though Carpenter did write the treatment for the sequel, Rosenthial made this movie, somewhat of a sleeper. The middle is very very slow. No action. Michael playing cat and mouse with the dumb and abandoned hospital staff. John Carpenter's Halloween was very well paced and kept you interested with scares.

* The absence of Carpenter- Carpenter. The man made Halloween what Halloween is today. The movie, of coarse. Carpenter. Why? Why did you not do Halloween II? I think with Carpenter behind the camera, the movie would have been just as much of a classic as the orignial. While Carpenter latest films are not exactly Academy Award winning, if Carpenter put his mind to it, he could make another great Halloween film.

* Annoying Soundtrack- This soundtrack has to be the cheapiest sounding soundtrack I have ever listened to. The Halloween theme is spooky and one of the best themes in cinema history but it sounds like something straight out of a cheap Disney cartoon. Its annoying and takes away the lack of scariness that Halloween II lacked. You can easily tell this movie was made from the 80s with this soundtrack. Organs do not mix well with the Halloween theme.

* Poor stunt opener- If you notice in the opening scene, Rosenthial felt it was smart, I guess, to refilm the opener a little bit. If you pay attention to the fresh new part where the camera is shown outside a dollhouse looking Wallace house, the stunt man if watched closely walks on TOP of the balcony ledge! Its like he's walking on air and BAM he leaps off. Bad. The Wallace house was cheap made too. You could tell this was done in a studio. The stuntman too, (I am unsure if it was Dick Warlock.) overreacted in this scene. He starts waving his hands in the air many seconds before he takes a plunge.

The movie know as Halloween II, scared audiences in America, and the world. It was no classic though. Critics treated this as a bastard sequel and tore into it in their review columns. I do not think that Carpenter enjoyed this sequel as well. Jamie Lee Curtis herself, stated in a Fangoria magazine, "Halloween II was awful. I did it to pay appreciation to Debra and John."
While the movie got mixed reviews from all, the fans loved it and worship it as a well worthy sequel.
