Mt. Katmai

My second ship, USS Mount Katmai (AE16),was an ammunition ship. I served nearly 4 and one half years aboard her. Three tours during Viet Nam. She was part of the Service Force Pacific Fleet (SERVPAC). Mount Katmai has been decommissioned.

Ordnance Deck Load

We had so much ammo to deliver to the combatants that with all five holds full, all deck space fore and aft was covered with ordnance.

We were assigned to stand Shore Patrol duty on a rotating basis. Here, I take my turn during a ship's picnic on Grande Island in Subic Bay, Phillipine Islands.
