I thought I'd had some good times in my life but they were all just preparation for this. If it had gotten any better I would have had to be twins just to handle it. I didn't have to do anything or be anywhere and I had an income whether I got out of bed or not. I had a slip for my sailboat at a small marina on Cobbs Creek, which is just off the Piankatank River which empties into the Chesapeake Bay. I had purchased a sea kayak during my tour with ST6. The kayak, my motorcycle, my sailboat and me were all here in this gorgeous, idyllic location. I continued to live on my sailboat as I had pretty much done since I bought it. Except when duty precluded. I sailed all over the Chesapeake. I kayaked up and down the Piankatank. Sometimes I loaded my camping gear and paddled off for a few days. I had a Ford Escort but my motorcycle was much more economical. Made a few trips on the bike to some of the scenic areas in Virginia. Life was outstanding but I guess it's human nature to get bored with the status quo. Maybe it's just my nature. Or maybe I was searching and just didn't know what for.
My most favorite cousin, Donna, and her husband had been pinging on me for sometime to come back to the midwest and get a job at the company they worked for. Other than my brothers and sister and their families, my cousin was about the only near immediate family member still living and the only one left in my hometown. My boat was getting older, I had sold my ultralight aircraft for the same reason, I was feeling that urge for change so I decided to make the move. It was no problem selling my boat. Loading my bike, my kayak and what little other personal belongings I had into a U-Haul, I headed home, towing the Ford Escort behind.
