WILLIAM SHARP

(In Memoriam)

Most of William Sharp's work comes from the period 1893 to 1905 and appeared under the pseudonym of Fiona McLeod.  All had a strong Gaelic inspiration - his stories, his poems and his dramas.  When reading his works, one comes to the conclusion he was a Keltic Pagan at heart.

One could do no better than read his "The Sin Eater", "The Washer of The Ford", "Iona", "Studies in Spiritual History" and the many poems to realise he was a scholar of all things and areas Keltic - from the Northern Isles of Scotland to Brittany, with a considerable grasp of Keltic languages.   I regret he is much neglected on the modern literary scene.

Here are a few of his poems to perhaps revive interest in his excellent work which, unfortunately, has been out of print for some long time.

Extracts from Iona

The Washer of The Ford

The Enchanted Valleys

The Lords of Shadow

The Weaver of Snow
