The Continuim's MAIN function is to keep all the time lines in all the universe on their correct course, tracking down causes of divergence and doing whatever it takes to correct them. 

The elimination of the undead (vampires among them) is only a byproduct of the overall religious aspect of the Continuim - and a convenient way to pass a death sentence to those Continuim members who have committed crimes against the Continuim without actually giving them a direct death sentence. They just make their criminals slayers. {Captain Jonothon Railie aka The Guardian is the only captain whom has ever volunteered to be a captain over the slayers and the only captain to ever actually fight vampires, either alone or with his primary squad.} 

The main leaders of the Continuim are Triune (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost), Triple (Maiden, Mother, and Crone), and Satan (whom isn't evil per se, just more of a Loki-let's see how much fun we can make the game). {Yes, it's a mix of Christian and Wiccan mythology.}
 Then there are the archangels and all their 'underlings.' Gabriel is pretty much the slayers patron angel and has always considered himself a 'father' and somewhat protector to Mercy all her life as he was who she would pray to as a child, erego, his 'son' Thanotos (Death) and then his 'daughter' Mercy, his Dark Angel of Mercy. 6. There are a lot of politics that go on between the archangels. ex: Factions like Korsa's group that Mercy and others often refer to as Partyliners. Partyliners tend to rat out other Continuim officers and Continuim enlisted on the least of offenses. 

The Continuim exists outside of reality - otherwise they would not be able to monitor and fix the time lines. There are 21 TC (Time Continuim) ships in all. 7 for the Triune, 7 for the Triple, 7 for Satan.
No, the Triune is not pleased that Mercy is also Scathach. It was once thought by Triune she would bring of the end of the world. Triple has never stated opinion on that fact one way or another. Satan thinks it is a hilarious twist of fate. 

Earthside stationed Continuim officers and enlisted refer to the Continuim as The Company. 
'Going Topside' means one is going to the TC ship. 'Stationed Topside' means one is stationed aboard a TC ship. 
The Board is the archangels and the archangel's direct underlings. . The Council consists of Triune, Triple, Satan, and the archangels.
