hat
are the guidlines for creating Inter Celtic?
he
first goal in creating Inter Celtic is to find the maximum possible commonality
among the six Celtic languages. If a feature (a word, grammatical structure
or, point of syntax) can be found in at least four of the languages AND ALSO
be found on BOTH sides of the Brythonic/Goidelic devide, then, that feature
can be included into Inter Celtic.
n
example:
The Inter Celtic word for complain
is; acoin
In Modern Irish there is the word
'acaointeach', complaining
It is also related to the word 'caoin'
to weep In early Irish the word was 'accaine'
Forms of this word are easily found
in Gaelic and Manx almost unchanged. That gives us examples from three
languages. But we need examples from at least four, if the word can be
accepted, AND we will need to find this word on the other side of the P/Q
devide In this case meaning Welsh Cornish or, Breton.
Happily for us Welsh has the word
'achwyn', 'To complain'
ow
that we see that we can use this word we have to find the common features
it has so that we can spell it in Celltiecc (Inter Celtic).
It most often appears as a word
of two syllables. It's second letter is usually 'c' not 'ch'. It always
ends in 'n' and begins with an unstressed 'a'. That leaves us with the
question; what to do about the vowel combination in the second syllable.
Should we use 'ai 'aoi' or, 'wy'? This problem is solved for us by the
fact that the closest sound available in Celltiecc is 'oi'.
And so the word is taken into Celltiecc
as; 'acoin'
second
but equally important feature in creating Inter Celtic is regularity and
simplicity. Anything that is being considered for inclusion in the language,
should be simple, straightforward, easily and quickly learned and without
any exceptions to it's rule. So far this has resulted in the following;
The spelling of Celltiecc is almost
completely regular. Each letter stands for one sound.
There is no gender of nouns.
There is one form of the definite
article for all cases, plural and singular.(yn)
There is only one form of the plural.
(-iuvv)
There is a regular system for forming
prepositional pronouns. If you know the preposition, then you can easily
deduce all forms of the prepositional pronoun.
Verbs are completely regular
the same syllable is always stressed
even when suffixes or prefixes have been added to the word.
