This website is the main page of the Clerc Learning Center for Literacy. Reading Education for Hearing Impaired and Deaf Individuals

The website presents materials intended to provide an introduction to Reading Education for Deaf and hard of hearing Individuals. Resources come from the Internet, ERIC Database, and other resources. Full text ERIC documents may be accessed and this site explains how. This is a VERY comprehensive review of much of the current research available in Reading and Deafness.

Public Television Promotes Early Literacy

This link presents an article about how Public television has developed ways of promoting literacy through programming. The featured program is the show Reading between the Lions. The analysis is very comprehensive and other links are provided throughout the site. While the focus is primarily for hearing children, much of the concept development applies to deaf child. Also, select episodes of Reading Between the Lions were part of a captioning program called "EZ Captioning" thus some of the programs can be made available to deaf readers who may not be able to follow typical captioning.
