A SURPRISE FOR CODY

Chapter 1

Louise and Cody headed toward the jail Rachel had made fried chicken for supper.
Since Teaspoon was still at the jail Rachel asked Cody to take it over to him. Cody
convinced Lou to help him carry it over since he said he didn’t want to tilt the
pie.

“More like eat the pie. “ Lou muttered to herself. As they entered the jail,
they saw Barnett by the desk looking into a crate.

“ Is Teaspoon here?” Cody asked. “ We brought him over some dinner.”

Barnett looked up from the crate. “ Teaspoon went over to the widow Harper’s for
dinner but I could sure use a home cooked meal. Hey , you guys should see what the
army sent over. Close your eyes and hold out your hands.”

Cody and Lou looked at each other sceptically.

“Oh come on. They’re brand new. The army sent them to all the jails in the territory to
use.”

“Okay Barnet, close your eyes Lou and hold out your hands.” Cody instructed her. He
was hoping the army had sent them one of those new repeating rifles. And if he had
to amuse Barnett to see it, he would. He smiled as he felt cold metal touch against
his hand and then heard two snaps and felt a weight on his left hand.

“Ok you can open them now.” Barnett said proudly.
He and Louise opened their eyes and looked down at their hands.

“Handcuffs!” Cody yelled, “ You wanted to show us handcuffs!”

“ You handcuffed me to Cody? You idiot.” Louise hollered.

“ Now calm down . Those are new escape-proof handcuffs the army developed. They are
impossible to escape from. You can’t shoot them off, cut them saw them off. They’re some kind of new metal .”

“ That’s great Barnett.” Lou said trying to squeeze her slim hand out . “They’re real
nice now unlock us!”
“ Oh sure, of course.” Barnett said, searching through his pockets. “I know I had it a
minute ago.”
He began going back through the crate and looking around the desk.

“ Well where is it?” Cody asked worriedly. He had a date tomorrow and this would not
look good.

“Uhm I’m not sure I can’t find it.” Barnett stammered

“BARNETT!!” Lou and Cody screamed in unison.
They began crawling around the floor trying to look for the key, which was very
difficult to do handcuffed. Every time Cody moved his left arm to crawl he would rip Lou’s arm out from under her and she would have to catch herself.

“Would you stop that Cody. We have to move our arms at the same time.” Lou said
irritated. They searched for nearly an hour. Dejected, they decided to go back to the
station.

Barnett promised to hunt down Teaspoon and bring them the key.
“ All we have to do is hide out in the barn.” Lou told Cody. “ I don’t want anyone to
know about this.” Cody was in complete agreement.

They slunk around the buildings making sure the coast was clear and then ran to the barn.
They decided that no one would look in the hay loft so they climbed up. The bunkhouse door slammed open. And Jesse came running in.

“ Jesse,” Rachel admonished. “ You know better than to slam doors.”

“ But Rachel I just saw Lou and Cody go sneaking into the barn holding hands.” Jesse
stated in his defence.

“ I don’t believe it.” Kid said.

“ Well then go see for yourself I heard Lou say something about the loft.” Jesse
added helpfully.

“ I’m sure there is a perfectly good explanation.” Rachel said to herself as
everybody headed towards the barn. Rachel got up and hurried after them. He’ll kill
poor Cody, she thought.

“Anyone in here.” Kid called as he entered the barn. There was no answer. “Lou?”
He looked over to Jesse who was pointing up to the loft. Kid started up the ladder.
He could her some rustling above him and he quickened his pace. “ Lou!” Kid yelled
again.

“ Wait!” Lou cried from behind a pile of hay. She popped out on the side of the bale
trying to hide the cuffs and Cody behind it. “ Hey Kid what’s up.”

“ What’s the hell’s going on Kid roared ?” Kid asked reaching through the bale and
pulling Cody out.

“ Please Kid it was all her idea. Don’t hurt my face.” Cody begged.

“ What?” Lou cried turning on Cody “ Who said ‘Go ahead hold your hand out Lou’?’”

Kid finally noticed the handcuffs. He held Cody against the wall. “ Why were you
handcuffing Lou. Where’s the key?”

“ Barnett lost it ; I thought we could hide up here and you guys would never find
out. I’m sorry to make you worry Kid .” Lou added in a sweet voice walking up to the
still angry Kid and ran her free hand through his hair. “ I didn’t think you’d be
jealous of Cody.”

“ Why the heck not! What’s wrong with me?” Cody defended himself.

Come on down everyone and we’ll discuss it over dessert. Rachel called to diffuse the
situation.

“ Pie!” Cody yelled dragging Lou down the stairs.

A grumpy Kid followed. Back in the bunkhouse Cody and Lou related what happened at
the jail.

“ It’s not funny.” Lou told the boys who were laughing so hard they couldn’t eat.

“ I don’t know Cody, I could think of worse things than being handcuffed to Louise.”
Noah said.

“ Yeah,” Lou added “ like being handcuffed to Cody.” She tried not to laugh as they
started laughing again.

There was a knock at the door. Jesse went to answer it.

“ Hold on.” Jesse told the guest. “It’s for you Cody it’s Jessica.”
Cody jumped up quickly from the table forgetting about Lou. Lou cried out as Cody
pulled her backwards off the bench and she landed on her back on the floor with a
thud.

“ Oh shoot are you OK Lou?” Cody asked . She just growled at him. “ Jesse tell
Jessica I can’t make it tomorrow but I’ll talk to her later.” Kid had come around to
help Lou up.

When Jessica left. Cody whispered to Lou.” I have to use the bathroom.”
“Well I can’t go with you.” she replied.
“You have to.” Cody emphasized.
Louise quietly followed Cody to the outhouse.

CHAPTER 2

Louise stood as far away from Cody as possible while he undid his pants she looked
around impatiently. All of a sudden she felt something soft and warm brush against
her hand and she pulled her hand away screaming.

“ Dammit Lou! You made me pee on myself.” Cody complained. “ What the heck were you
doing?”

“ It touched me.” She accused.

“Well I wasn’t going to rape your hand , it was an accident,” he added as she
glared at him.

“ Now I have to go change my pants and long johns.”

“ You can’t !” Lou shouted imagining Cody stripping down naked next to her. It was
a pleasant thought, which really frightened her.
Back at the bunkhouse Louise hid her face with both hands as the boys watched Cody awkwardly changed his clothes, Kid watched to make sure nothin’ funny went on.

“ You guys ready for bed?” Noah asked trying to hide a chuckle.

Lou gasped she didn’t even consider where they were going to sleep. “ What about
Teaspoon?”

“ We haven’t heard from him yet.” Jimmy said.
The door flew open.

“ Heard you got yourself in a scrape.” Teaspoon said chuckling at the pair. “ Well
we haven’t found the key so you have two choices. One, I can send someone to the fort
to get another key which could take a couple of days or two, you and Lou can ride there
double and it would take half as long before you’re separated.”

“ We’ll leave in the morning .” Louise said matter of factly.

“ Alright I’ll have a letter for you to take to the General in the morning. Sweet
dreams .” he said chuckling as he left.

“Well Lou, goodnight .” Cody said as he stood up and headed to his bed.

“Wait a minute,” Lou cried. “ You can’t sleep there. Where am I going to sleep?”

Cody had sat down on the bed and pulled the covers off. He smiled up at her as he
patted the spot beside him.

“ No!” Kid said appalled.

“ No we’ll sleep on the floor. “ Lou said.

“ Now what sense does that make? “ Cody asked, “ No matter where we sleep we have
to sleep together so we might as well sleep in a soft bed.”

“ Alright I guess.” Lou gave in. She gave Kid an apologetic look. Kid just lay
down in his bed and turned around with his back to her and covered up his head.
Louise lay flat on her back and Cody did likewise; the bunk was narrow so their
sides touched. They both lay there awake and Lou couldn’t remember who fell asleep
first. Cody, however, was the first to wake up. He lay very still trying to remember
where he was and who was curled up against him. It was still dark out so nobody
could see the wide grin that spread across his face as the events from yesterday
came back to him. Lou was laying on her side with her head on his chest and her left
leg was thrown over him.

Louise was having a wonderful dream. She was laying with Kid and he was gently
caressing her. She opened her mouth as he kissed her deeply. She felt him gently
turn her over and she could feel his hardness pressing against her thigh. She ran
her hand over his back and through his long hair. She paused ‘long hair’? Kid
doesn’t have long hair. She slowly opened her eyes and screamed.
“Get off me!” she yelled while pounding on his chest. Cody, who was shocked by her
reaction, tried to get untangled from her and the covers and ended up with both off
them falling in the floor as the other sleepy riders awoke.

“ Um I’m sorry Lou.” Cody said innocently hiding himself with the blanket. Lou was
taking the other end of the blanket and using it to wipe her mouth off inside and
out.

“ What’s going on.” Kid asked .

Louise looked at Cody who looked very worried before she answered .
“ Nothin’ Kid just had a dream is all.” Lou answered giving Cody a small smile.

“ Well you two better get ready. You have a long ride ahead of you.” Noah told
them.

Surprisingly, breakfast passed without incident. As they finished up and headed to
the barn, Cody stopped Lou. He looked at her intensely with his light blue eyes.
“ I wanted to think you for not saying anything about this morning. I’m sorry I
shouldn’t of taken advantage of you like that.”

Louise smiled at him with a twinkle in her eye. “It’s OK Cody. Next time just make
sure I’m awake first.” She told him as she walked toward the barn.

Cody was speechless. ‘did she say next time?’ he thought as he stumbled after the
small rider. They decided to take Cody’s horse since it could handle more weight
than Lightning. Teaspoon showed up with the letter. Lou wanted to take separate
horses but Teaspoon said it would be hard to control them and if something happened,
one of them could be pulled off and dragged. The idea of being drug under a
galloping horse didn’t appeal to Lou so she gave in again. Kid came up to tell her
goodbye.

“ Bye Lou, ride safe.” Kid told her awkwardly with Cody so close by.
Lou leaned up and hugged him. They watched as Cody mounted the horse first. Louise
stood up in the stirrup and started to mount. She stopped as she realized that she
could either sit behind Cody facing the rump or in front of Cody facing him. Which
would mean she would have to sit on his lap and straddle him with her legs. Her face
turned red and she hopped back down.
“ I can’t ride like that it’s indecent!” She said.

“ Yup!” Cody agreed with her smiling . He felt himself getting aroused again and
he wished she would hurry up before the others noticed. Lou looked at Rachel for
help. Rachel grabbed Jesse’s left hand with her right one and did a turn dunking
under his arm. His arm was stretched around her waist but they were both facing
forward.

“ Hey Lou how about this.” Rachel said demonstrating again.

“ Well I guess that’ll have to work .” Lou sighed. Unsure of how to get on the
horse with out getting her feet tangled. Kid solved the problem by lifting her up in
front of Cody who lifted his arm over her head so it was wrapped around her.
“ Let’s go.” Lou said wanting to get away she could feel her face turning redder.
Cody used his knees to send the horse into a trot and they were on their way.

CHAPTER 3 - Version A (for Kidettes)

Louise felt awkward riding off with Cody pressed tightly against her back and his
arms around her. The rocking motion of the horse kept them rubbing together. She felt
something poking into her lower back and she wiggled trying to get more comfortable.
“ Stop squirming Lou.” Cody said through tightly gritted teeth.

“ But your gun keeps poking me.” She retorted.

“ That’s not my gun.” Cody told her softly.
Realization slowly dawned on Lou and she sat up as straight as she could her face
turning bright red.

“ Stop the horse!” she yelled trying to jump down before the horse had stopped
completely.

“ Jeez Lou you trying to kill us both?” Cody asked as they safely made it to the
ground.

“ Nope just you.” She retorted angry. “ I’m glad one of us is having a good time.”

“ Gosh Lou I can’t help it. You were bouncing all over the place. I’m sorry I
didn’t mean to scare you.”

Lou was appalled. “ Scare me? You couldn’t scare me. I wasn’t
scared.”

Cody came up closer to her forcing her to lift her face up to look at him. He
lifted his free hand to slowly brush away the hair from her face. Then her lowered
his head until his lips barely touched hers. She jumped back as if she had been
scalded. She quickly looked around they were in the middle of nowhere . Just her
and Cody.
“ What the hell are you doin’!” Lou asked in shock .

“ Well ya said next time make sure you were awake.” Cody said defensively.

“ I was kidding! I like you Cody but just not that way. “ Lou apologized .

“ I was afraid you were going to say that.” Cody sighed. “ Well I guess we’d better
get going .”

“ Alright,” Lou said smiling “ but this time your sittin’ in the front.”

They made good time getting to the fort. As they approached they were surrounded
by a unit who ordered them to dismount. They took their weapons and ushered them
into a cell.

“ Remind me to thank Teaspoon for his words of wisdom.” Cody whispered to Lou.

“ You two shut up in there!” the guard roared. The head of the unit went to report their findings to the general.

“ They’re wearing army handcuffs captain . So we rounded them up and brought them in
sir. They’re probably escaped deserters,” the soldier said proudly.
“ You said they were headed toward the fort?” the general questioned him.
“ Yes sir!”
“ If they were escaping, why were they headed toward the fort?”
“ I don’t know sir”
“ Did you ask them?”
“ No .”
“Bring them to me.” the general ordered, annoyed.
They drug Cody and Lou into the room.
“ Um general sir I have a letter here that explains everything.” Cody said
carefully pulling the letter from his pocket. The general opened the letter and
began reading. He burst out into hearty laughter several times and Lou was starting
to get annoyed.

“ Wilson, get a key and release these boys.” He said through chuckles. As Lou and
Cody were released they both rubbed their tender wrists. “ You two are free to go but
we’re keeping the handcuffs.”

“ You’re welcome to them.” Lou and Cody said. Relieved, they decided to head back to
the station instead of spending the night at the fort. They stopped about mid way
and camped out when it started getting dark. Louise and Cody spent the evening
talking . Lou told him how she felt about Kid. That she still loved him but didn’t
know how he felt .

“ Well Lou you ain’t ever gonna get anywhere in life if your afraid to take the
first step, If ya sit around and wait for someone else to go first you’ll never get
anywhere.. “ Cody told her matter of factly.

“ You’re scaring me again. That sounds like something Teaspoon would say. Thanks
Cody.” She reached over and kissed his cheek. For Lou’ s peace of mind he put the
saddle between them as they slept. The next afternoon Lou and Cody rode into the
station. Kid went to meet them . He was shocked when Lou flew off the horse and ran
into his arms and kissed him thoroughly.

“ I’m sorry Kid for everything.”

“ I’m sorry too Lou.” They walked away hand in hand .

As Cody stood watching them go, he reached into his pocket and fingered a key there. Sighing, he turned around and headed for the barn.

Chapter 3B

Louise felt akward riding off with Cody pressed tightly against her back and his arms around her. The rocking motion of the horse kept them rubbing together She felt something poking into her lower back and she wiggled trying to get more comfortable.

" Gosh Lou I can't help it. You were bouncing all over the place. I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you."

Lou was appalled. She blurted out. " Scare me? You couldn't scare me. I wasn't scared."

Then he lowered his head until his lips barely touched hers. She jumped back as if she had been scalded. She quickly looked around. They were in the middle of no where. Just her and Cody. Thoughts were spiriling around in her head. 'What about Kid,' a tiny voice said. Ever since she and Kid had split up she had been hurting. He had his Scumantha and all the girls in town he had carlessly flirted with, not caring how much she hurt. 'What about ME? I have needs too dammit! she thought as she grabbed the suprised Cody and kissed him with all the pent up emotions she'd been holding in for so long. Cody was caught off guard. He expected at the very least a slap in the face but who was he deny Lou? Breathing heavily he broke away gasping he cupped her face with his free hand.

" Are you sure Lou?" He asked her gently.

" Cody I'm not gonna lie to you I can't promise you more than this moment, I'll probably hate myself later but right now I need someone. I need to feel wanted and needed. I need you."

Well it wasn't exactly what he was hoping for but it was a good enough answer for Cody. He started peppering tiny kisses all over her. He covered her closed eyes, her cheeks and finally ended up on her partially open lips. He felt her soft moist tongue enter his mouth as he eagerly retaliated with his own. His breath was coming fast and hard and he fought to control his body. He wanted to satisfy her too. This was new to him. He'd never cared about the woman's pleasure before, just his own. Sadly he thought that if this were to be the only time they would ever have, he wanted it to be special. He broke away to unload his bedroll and lay it out to protect her from the rough ground as he gently laid her down. He unbuttoned her shirt with his right hand while he supported himself with his left. Lou was trying to unbutton his clothing with her left hand but wasn't having much luck as she felt his warm rough hand move over her chest and breast she grabbed the front of his shirt and pulled hard ripping off his buttons . Her free hand roamed over his smooth chest and she could feel his taunt muscles rippling underneath. She reached up and pulled his mouth down to hers, savoring in the feelings it brought. Wanting more, needing more she fumbled with the clasp on his belt . He stop familiarizing himself with her body long enough to undo his belt on pants. He gasped as her small hands reached down and grasped his organ. She marveled at the long silky sheath she was sliding back and forth in her hands, she heard his gasping and smiled . He almost tore her pants from her in his need for release. He slowly slid his hand down to the juncture of her legs and gently explored her wet crease. Sensing she was ready for him he poised above her. He looked deeply into her brown eyes as he entered her slowly. Louise used her hand to gently guide him in. It had been a long time for her so she spread her legs wider to accomodate all of him. He laced his fingers through hers as he slowly began to move. Feeling her hips moving under him he quickened the pace. Hearing her cries of pleasure he gratefully exploded into her depths and collapsed on top of her.

" Get off me. " Lou gasped.

Realizing he was too heavy for her he rolled to his side awkwardly holding her to him. He held until his breathing returned to normal . He felt moisture on his chest and with a start realized that Louise was crying.

" Did I hurt you?" He asked concerned. He rolled her onto her back and kissed away her tears.

" No Cody." She smiled up at him. She reached up and ran her hand along his chin. " My life is just so screwed up right now. I'm sorry I got you messed up in it. I thought if we had sex I would feel better inside . But I don't. Actually I feel like a whore. Someone pays me a little attention and I hop into bed with them.." She said crying again.

" It's not like that Lou , I don't think that- nobody does. We all want to be loved and needed. I know you still love Kid even if you try to pretend not to. If you didn't love him it wouldn't hurt so bad. You and Kid belong together. I know that I guess I was just trying to fool myself in to thinking you could like someone like me." Cody told her sadly.

" I do like you Cody you're a wonderful person. You’re handsome, caring , funny and some day you're gonna find a woman who loves you more than life itself. Just like I love Kid." She whispered. She sat up and they helped each other dress.

" I have a surprise for you . Close your eyes." Cody told her.

" I don't know if I can take another surprise." Lou said complying.

She heard a click and felt her hand slip loose from the cuffs. She opened her eyes in surprise. Then they narrowed "You had the keys the entire time!" She yelled .

" Sorry Lou ." He said mischeviously.

" I'm not, I'm not sorry at all." she came up gave him a hug.

" Me neither, but you need to tell Kid how you feel. Lou you ain't ever gonna get anywhere in life if your afraid to take the first step, If ya sit around and wait for someone else to go first you'll never get anywhere.. ." Cody told her matter of factly.

" You're scaring me Cody. That sounds like something Teaspoon would say. C'mon, let's go home."

" What are we gonna tell the others?" Cody asked as they mounted up with him in front.

" Well tell them we ran into a scouting unit and they had a spare key."

" Alright you're the boss." Cody said as they headed home.

Lou and Cody rode into the station. Kid went to meet them . He was shocked when Lou flew off the horse and ran into his arms and kissed him good.

" I'm sorry Kid for everything."

" I'm sorry too Lou."

They walked away hand in hand .

Cody stood watching them go . He smiled as he headed to the barn.
