XAVIER School's Stallions rolled out like a big ball of fire and
torched UNO High, 91-61, to retain the Tiong Lian basketball title via a
nine-game sweep Wednesday night at the UNO gym.
Leonard Lee fired 19 points while Chris Tiu, Tyrone Tang and JC Yu chipped in
18, 15 and 11, respectively, as the Stallions wrapped up their fifth crown this
year and their 15th since May 1999 when Alfredo "Moe" Amador assumed
the coaching job.
These four got tremendous support from Sammy Young, Joseph Chua, Marty Tio, Bon
Syiaco, Edmund Yee, Luke Orbos, Wesley Cobankiat, Randy Chua, Julius Hon and
Francis Ang as Amador freely shuffled his boys.
“They deserved to win. They worked hard to prove to our fans, especially Fr.
Johnny Go (Xavier School director), that they're the best in their class,”
said Amador of his boys.
After they stretched their 28-16 first-quarter lead to 48-25 at halftime, the
Stallions turned what was expected to be a thriller into a farcical match.
