His Game:
Brian Shaw was a versatile player who could play both guard positions. Despite being an uncosistent scorer, he made a career as a starter or 6th player because of his great defense skills, good passing and rebounding (for his position), his clear mind and his unselfish game.

His Career:
He was #24 in the 1988 Draft, selected by the Boston Celtics. He had a very good rookie year in Boston, averaging 8.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.8 assists in the regular season and 17(!) points in the playoffs. After a season in Italy, he retured to the Celtics for the 1990-'91 season that was also the best of his career. He averaged 13.8 points, 7.6 assists, 4.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 35 minutes, while shooting 47% from the field, all career-highs. That year he led the Celtics in assists. During the 1991-'92 season he got traded to Miami where he was coming off the bench scoring 7 ppg. Once again, when the postseason started, Shaw stepped it up scoring 12 ppg, 4.3 rpg and 4 apg. He spent the next 2 years in Miami, starting about half of the games he played in and averaging 8.2 points in 25 minutes played.

In September 1994, he signed with the Orlando Magic. He played a key role as the team's backup guard for the next 3 years. The Magic advanced to the NBA finals in 1995, where they were swept by the Houston Rockets. On December 29 1995 he posted his only career triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in just 28 minutes, against the Clippers. During the 1996-'97 season he hit clutch free throws or shots 5 times to help Orlando secure victories. His scoring average dropped to 6.7 ppg though, during his days in Orlando.

The next year he got traded to the Golden State Warriors who traded him in the mid-season to the Philadelphia 76ers. He signed with Portland but played only one game during the 1998-'99 season because of injuries. The next 3 years he played for the Lakers and once again was a valuable reserve guard, especially during the first 2 years, as the Lakers built their dynasty. During the 2000-'01 season he averaged 5.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 23 minutes. His numbers dropped to 2.9 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists in just 11 minutes, during the following season.

Shaw has won 3 NBA Championships with the Los Angeles Lakers (2000, '01, '02). He set an NBA record on 8 April 1993 by hitting 10 3-pointers against the Milwaukee Bucks. He was also a member of the 1988-'89 All-Rookie Second Team.
