The Urchin That Lurks Within
The gentle breeze that heaven often
presses against the atmosphere beneath was tampered with by the naughty urchin
that lurks within.
The grace, plainness and divine
mission meant to bolster celestial bodies and all that resides below was
forgotten whenever that unruly knave decided.
When up is up and the angels and
saints dance with utter pulchritude to a sonnet unheard by the ears of the
living yet is tacitly accepted, he creeps stealthily through the surreptitious,
inner world of the human soul.
While the night grows old and new
dreams are born, the soul rests yet is deceived.
The soul, cleansed of the bitterness
of yesterday, anticipates the coming of tomorrow. The owner of the soul has become one with it,
and it has become one with God. Serenity
envelopes as life continues to take its blissful, simple course.
The miscreant enters. He awaited this moment amid the dark side of
the moon.
During the process of the dream, the
shadow, the diversion, he retrieves his
pen and prepares to sign the name of the owner of the soul in Satan’s
black book.
However, the dream lightens and the
soul is found. Frantically the soul attempts to rid itself of the fiend that so
furtively encroached upon it. The soul
summons all of its righteousness and integrity in great hopes of victory. All the good it acquired during the
immaculate fancy that profoundly encircled it was redeemed, and it was ready to
annihilate the young miscreant.
In spite of the fact that all the
good in the soul of the inner being of a human lashes and strives to defeat,
the urchin is ruthless. The lips of his
felt tip pen meet the lips of the devil’s book and he signs! He signs!
How many times will the beauty of a
sunrise and a sunset appear before the eyes of man? How many times will the souls of men be
saved? Will the souls of men be saved,
or will the urchin that lurks within keep young and agile until the demise of
the world?
The burning question that kindles
anger in the hearts of many possesses a simple
response.
Who is this knave, this
miscreant? Is it a Demon, or is it the
devil himself? The souls that convert
from piety to lunacy often suspect this evil force, this fiend, to be the Lord
almighty, the divine creator, himself!
Those befuddled must take heed. The miscreant that prowls within the souls of
all as they are diverted by a dream or something blissful, is the anger,
gluttony, lust, excessive pride, envy, greed and sloth that dwell in the
surreptitious, inner world of the human soul.
The urchin lies within man. The urchin is man.
The glory of a sunrise will someday
end, and only the strong will survive.
The strong at heart and the strong at mind. The strong in spirit and the strong in faith. Evil will never surpass good.
God created life! God created all!
Yet until the soul is strong and
devoid of mortal sin, the naughty urchin that lurks will prevail.
