About the International Bujinkan Dojo

The International Bujinkan Dojo, based in Noda City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, was created by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi as a vehicle to teach these nine ryu (schools) of traditional Japanese martial arts passed to him by his teacher, Toshitsugu Takamatsu.

These nine ryu emphasize natural and efficient combat methods that have been carried down through centuries of actual personal and battlefield combat experience.  Collected as they are, these systems provide comprehensive skills in all aspects of personal protection.  It is this comprehensive approach to the training, coupled with an appreciation for the ever-changing elements of self-defense situations, that allows the practitioner to create their technique based on the principles and framework of the Bujinkan arts.

Unlike Karate-do, Aikido, Judo, Kendo, and other modern forms of Japanese martial arts, the Bujinkan arts are not sport-oriented.  Our focus is toward self-improvement through the practice of practical self-protection skills and the perpetuation of these combat systems as they have been passed down through the ages.

These 9 martial traditions are as follows:
Gyokko Ryu Koshijutsu
Koto Ryu Koppojutsu
Shindenfudo Ryu Dakentaijutsu
Takagi Yoshin Ryu Jutaijutsu
Gikan Ryu Koppojutsu
Kukishinden Ryu Happo Biken
Togakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu
Kumogakure Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu
Gyokushin Ryu Ninpo Taijutsu
