Griese Injured Against 49ers
Brian tries to warm up after re-jamming his shoulder Saturday
No NFL quarterback could have been more excited to return to the game than Denver's #14. Brian Griese was all smiles when Coach Mike Shanahan gave him the go ahead to play against the 49ers. After a 3rd-degree shoulder seperation in mid-November, his return was doubtful for the entire season. Being young and a stud, he healed quickley and attempted to play in the final regular season game at Mile High Stadium. He said before the game the one hit he couldn't handle would involve landing on that shoulder. After only 5 plays and 2 passes for 14 yards, he was sacked by a 305lb San Francisco lineman right on that shoulder. Gus Frerotte came in while Brian tried some practice throws on the sideline before slamming the ball on the bench in frusteration. He came back for one play though when Frerotte was injured and handed the ball to KaRon Coleman who got his first NFL touchdown. But that was it for Brian. What's a fan to do when they don't know the status of the quarterback especially right before the playoffs? Hope that it's nothing to serious. After the game, Shanahan commented that Brian's shoulder did not pop out, which is a very good sign but that he was pretty sore. Brian added that he probably could have returned to the game but didn't want to jeopardize his chances to play in the playoffs- I think that was a smart move, personally. The Broncos' team press conference is Wednesday the 27th and hopefully Brian and Shanahan will shed some light on the situation. |
