| I'm new to Counter-Strike, how do I get started on this server? Read This How can I create a shortcut that will connect me directly to Steel City Strike Club? Click the "Read This" link in the above question. Can I be an admin? I play on the server all the time and I'm good and I love you. No, I'll come to you about being an admin if I need an admin, don't bother asking me. The server has no more admins than it needs and I intend to keep it organized that way. Admin is overused on many servers, and I want to keep its use to a minimum on this server. Why are AWPs banned? On public servers, there is typically a very wide range of skill levels amoungst the players... often times, someone who is very good with AWP can demolish an entire team of less skilled players, much more so than someone who is good with other weapons. When I connect to the server it says I don't have the current map... This server has some custom maps that must be downloaded to play. You can get these maps quickly from the files section of the page. You can also let the map download automatically off of the server when you connect, but that is typically much slower and can slow down a crowded game. I normally have a decent ping, but my ping is unusually high today... If you have an unsually high ping, first check and see if everyone else's ping is normal. If so, it is probably a temporary problem on your end. If your ping is too high to play, just try back a little later. If everyone's ping is high, it is either a map that gets laggy with alot of people (i.e. cs_office or de_torn) or Pitt's network has high traffic (1000's of students downloading off KaZaA). This usually goes away in a short while. Can I put up those votes for maps? Yes, any player can put up a vote for a different map by pulling down their console and typing admin_vote_map <mapname> example: admin_vote_map de_dust How can I see my FPS, packet loss, and choke? Type net_graph 3 in console, it will bring up a monitor of those things in your bottom right hand corner. Use net_graph 0 to turn this feature off. Why is this server so spectacular? I can't explain the phenomenon I thought I played good today, but my stats didn't improve, what's the deal? Stats are calculated using a formula that takes difficulty of kills into consideration. To see this formula, go here. Also, remember that the stats only cover the past 14 days. So, each day the stats are updated, the oldest logs are ignored. So, if you played a great game 2 weeks ago, when the stats are updated it will no longer be included, which could cause your stats to go down (This also works to your advantage if you played a bad game, because 2 weeks later it is forgotten and doesn't hinder your stats forever). No. Telling other players where people are when you are dead (i.e. LAN Hacking, Ghosting, Recon, etc) will be treated like any other cheat, and you will both be banned. It is fine to play on the server with your roomate, but play your own seperate games.* *Tip: If you have trouble remembering to keep your mouth shut when you are dead, you could try playing dead whenever you die on the game. Upon dying, promptly lie face down on the floor and don't move or talk until the round is over. If you have to go to the bathroom, just hold it, because dead people don't use bathrooms... but you won't care, because you will be having so much fun being dead. |
