OK...
I haven't had a news update on here in a long long long time, although there's probably been the most news to report ever. This is mostly due to the fact that I haven't had efficient means of updating this page ever since it was moved to the new domain, and also because I have been using the forums. BUT, here I will try to explain the situation and recap what's been happening.
I tried very hard to get university sponsorship for the server. After talking to ALOT of people, I ultimately found out that it's EXTREMELY hard to get a simple cubicle or office with a jack in it, even if we were to form a student organization. It is also not as good as having the server hosted by an actual person for obvious reasons. It's just not worth it.
So, I found a temporary host for the server. It's been up on and off there since last week, but we've been plagued with unexplained crashes. He has a laptop, so he cannot use my KVM switch to remedy the problem easily. The server is down at the moment, but it should be up soon. It may be on and off for the next few days until we can relocate/fix it. Right now, I am in the process of finding someone new to host. I'm being very selective for obvious reasons, but I'm also trying to act quicly, and I'm really hoping to relocate it within the next day or so. When I do relocate it, I am going to reformat the computer and start clean. I will reconfigure and tweak the server from scratch, only installing a few essential plugins to make sure the server remains stable. If I can get Mandrake Linux to work, I'll use that because it is more stable and efficient, otherwise it's Windows XP Pro.
We put up a few flyers around campus, and the response has been pretty overwhelming. There are ALOT of new people interested in playing, so I'm doing everything in my power to make it happen very, very soon. Thanks to everyone for their support (especially Bret, Jim, Brian W, Brian R, Dan, and Justin, who have been directly helping me with things)., I am glad everyone is still very into making this happen.
