Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer tours?

Yes, we do offer tours on a regular basis. Please call 310 208 8242 for current tour times.

When do I check-in?

Usually, you would check-in on the official check-in day of each quarter. However, if you needed to check-in mid-quarter or at any other time, that is possible, but you need to first confirm the date with the office. Please note you may check-in only after receiving written confirmation of a space for you. All check-ins need to be during official hours: M-F 12:00PM - 8:00PM. We are closed on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, so, please call to confirm holiday schedule.

Could I change my arrival date?

Yes, once approved, you can change your arrival date, so long as you inform the office prior to the change and come during our check-in office hours, which are Monday through Friday 12:00pm to 8:00pm. Also, please be informed, there will be an additional charge for early arrival. The price will vary depending on the arrival date.

How long is an application valid for?

An application is valid for only one Academic year (Fall through summer). If admission is not gained during this period, a new updated application will need to be filed. If you were admitted for a specific quarter within an academic year and were unable to check-in, you may request your file to be forwarded for a different quarter within that academic year. If however you need to be re-admitted for a quarter outside of the academic year then you need to sublitt an updated application for the new quarter.

What if I cannot make it during the check-in hours?

If you are unable to make it during the official check-in times, you would need to check into a nearby hotel/motel and come in on the next day open for business. For details on nearby living options, please visit the online UCLA Housing Office Hotel/Motel directory.

Can I send my packages to UCHA before arrival ?

UCHA does not take any responsibility for handling packages of prospective residents. As such, you will need to make sure that you are here and officially checked-in prior to the arrival of your package. Our mailing address is 500 Landfair Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90024.

Are there separate floors or wings for men and women?

No. All our halls are gender-mixed. It all depends on how each member ends up selecting a room.

Is there a place where I can keep my valuables?

At UCHA, while we provide a closet and writing desk, we do not provide safes, lockers, etc. Students that require such facilities would need to bring their own or seek professional services that may be available in the neighborhood.

What items do you provide?

Aside of the closet, desk, bed, and laundry facilities, we do not provide any other items. Hangers, towels, toothbrush/paste etc. will need to be brought by you. You may purchase these items at nearby shops as well.

Do I have to do a choreshift the first week of arrival?

Yes, if you check-in anyday Monday through Thursday. If you check-in on a Friday, then you will begin your shift the next week

Am I allowed to have an overnight guest?

Yes, you certainly may. UCHA policy is that a member may have a guest for a maximum period of four days/three nights per month. Additionally, you will need the consent of all your roommates. Any period of stay in excess of this will require an additional fee (inquire at the office) and the authorization of the Executive Director.

What if I want to leave mid-quarter?

All contracts are for one quarter (approximately eleven weeks), and automatically renewable unless canceled. Residents are responsible for the entire quarters rent (room and board) regardless of the actual days spent at UCHA. In addition, there will also be a $100.00 breach of contract fee, for non-fulfillment of the contract and quarterly chore requirements, if you choose to leave early.

When do I get my deposit?

Approximately three weeks after you move out. You will need to contact the Accounts department for specific information.
