Geezers Open up 2008 Campaign

For the first time ever, the EWBL opened with a bunch of old men. The average age of those playing was over 21, and it really showed on the field. Fielding was rusty, and baserunning was poor at best, but the group of six geriatric old men managed to have fun. The game saw long time pros Erick, Adam and Jake face off against Eric, Art, and Ant. Early on, Adam started to complain about not being able to bend over anymore, and i'm pretty sure that all those playing managed to fall over at least once. The most memorable moment of the day occured when the JACKHAMMER Jake Ziter scorched a ball down the 3rd base line past the dive of Eric Senger. "Eric seemed to move in slow motion," noted Art, who fired to the mound to record the out. What should've been a close play, didn't even come close to that. Jackhammer fell on the ground tumbling out of the box. Without checking to see if Jake was ok, play resumed and everyone assumed he was dead. Everything was exaggerated as Jakes legs were much stronger than those of Jeffrey Morgans. The later innings drew a larger crowd as the swiss minions flocked from their church to invade the adjacent fields. They called the old men names, and the most hurtful term thrown around was "junkballers."

The final score of the game was 20-7 in favor of Eric and the Allegras. This game marks the beginning of the 2008 campaign, a season that has been 271 days in the making. After calculating how long its been since the last game, Anthony Allegra explained that "it's like a million kicks to the crotch." Luckily for Anthony, he's only been struck in the groin 437 times since the last game.
