firstly the front cover. cute baby huh? and that caption there, 'Emmy said, "we'll just love this baby, okay?" but then Emmy went away." who is Emmy and who is Mahalia?

This is what Allen and Unwin website description says:

Mahalia

Joanne Horniman

Description:

A lyrical, gentle and insightful novel about a single teenage father caring for his baby, while still searching for direction in his own life

Matt had loved Emmy, with her freckled, luminous, magical body; he had loved the way she hadn't given a damn for anything, the way she had climbed onto the roof of the church tower and kissed and kissed him. The way she'd fallen into the river just to know what it felt like. He had loved the way she had said to her parents, 'We'll just love it, okay?' He remembered how they had believed that loving Mahalia would be enough.

My review:

It is indeed a gentle and insightful novel, the moment I start reading on page one, I just couldnt put it down. Just like when I read Harry Potter series. Just like when I read John Grishams latest novels. Reading on how this young guy here trying to make it on his own and taking care of his baby Mahalia. He wouldnt even let any stranger just take care of his baby and leaving his baby to be taken care of by his mummy is also a no-no. He wants to take care of kiddo himself and since day one he already seems to be close with Mahalia. The way he took care of his baby and how he really bothers over her, it really touches you. It makes me imagine Mahalia to look like the baby on this book front cover. Makes me feel like wanna have my own baby. But it's not easy having a baby ok? And being responsible for it and not just running away from it. You wanna know who is Emmy? Maybe you should read this book and find out who she is and fall in love with Mahalia :)
