J O U R N A L :::

August 2000

They fall from the sky, appearing as oily slicks on the ground slowly activated by rain water. They turn green and plastic looking (reminds me of flourescent green alien keychains, only a foot or more tall), oozy, transparent, and internally bubbled. They prefer wet, low places.

Inside, a man sits behind a desk gibbering from fear. He won't look or talk to anyone and when we try to tell him to get to higher ground he only becomes louder. We leave him.

The things come inside. They have little alien faces. They use their gooey appendages to stick to things and pull themselves up.
Quickly two of them advance on the guy at the desk. One pulls out a needle and injects something into his hip. A few seconds pass and he starts to scream.

We run outside, no choice we have to get away. We jump an hop over the creatures trying to get to the cars. I slip in the rainwater but keep going quickly glancing behind me.
They are flowing in small oozing patches with the puddles and intent on me as a target. I reach the car and get one foot on the bumper and pull myself and realize one of them has grabbed my leg.
It holds a needle.
The others are trying to reach the bumper and I know it wont be long before they figure out how to climb the tires. I have to get inside the car, and climb up onto the roof.

The thing has held on and now tries to plunge the needle in but I grab it. It's sticky and pliable in my hand and after a moment I'm able to wrench the needle away.
I try to kill it as a warning to the others, but it only flexes and nothing happens, so I put it in my mouth and start biting it. It's trying to escape my mouth and I feel horrible that I'm reduced to chewing my enemies like an animal trying to escape.

It slowly registers pain, more like a golem than any living creature. It knows it's body is being destroyed. I don't know if the life ever leaves it, but I finally swallow it.
Their purpose is fear, capture and the needle. Without those it can do no harm inside me.
The others are momentarily surprised, but even more determined.

I get the car door open and try to climb inside from the roof. They climb into the seat and I'm unable to use the car so jump off over their heads and rush back inside.
The others who were with me are inside and lying about on the floor. They are turning the same color green as the things. I realize the shot did that, makes them into something similar to the creatures, but different.

My pause gives one of them a chance to reach me and I feel a sharp plunge in my hip. It's too late. I'm horrified. I don't want to be like them. I try to escape any way, even knowing the deed has been done. They continue to follow, but less in pursuit and more monitoring me.
The building is maze like, lots of hallways, and twice more I find myself back where the others are lying.
I have not yet started to change though and wonder why the process is so slow. Then I wonder if it's because I ate the golem thing, that there's some kind of antitdote or it's precense inside keeps me from changing because they have a link with me now that the thing is inside me. It's not really in my stomach anymore. It's in my body, but I control my body. Unlike the others who will turn into tiny golem things.
They wonder at this too.

A sickness begins in me and I feel weak and nauseous. I'm too exhausted to continue running and slowly collapse beside one of the others on the floor. My head spins and I know I can't fight them and they know this too, but them come no closer.
I lay down and stare up at a ceiling that isn't there. I will kill them if they come near me. I will eat them and destroy them in any way, and they know this.
They only watch now, suddenly growing bigger and taller, regular aliens in disguise.
I can only lie on the floor panting and fighting for concious control as we all wait for something to happen. My vision fogs out.
