 SSTRANGE SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS— A
WARNING Recently
I came across a paragraph that just jumped out at me.I
read it in the March issue of Last Trumpet Newsletter.It
had to do with strange signs in the heavens. “There
are also many strange signs in the heavens.It
was recently discovered that an ongoing massive explosion in space has
caused a black hole to begin swallowing up other stars.Professor
Brian McNamara of Ohio State University said, ‘I was stunned to find that
a mass of about 200,000,000 suns was swallowed.’NASA
scientist Jennifer Wiseman has also reported that the Orion nebula is now
a bursting cauldron of activity, DR. WISEMAN ALSO STATED THAT THERE WERE
MASSIVE CAVERNS OF LIGHT FORMING.THESE
ARE BRILLIANT CORRIDORS OF MAJESTIC COLOR AND BEAUTY.” When
I read the above, I thought how 60 + year ago I had heard an astronomer
at the advent of the Mt. Wilson 100 inch telescope state that the Orion
composed of billion upon billions of suns was the brightest spot in the
universe.My mind also went to the
Bible, which says:"And there
shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon
the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring." We
usually think of this text in conjunction with the dark day, the moon turning
blood red and the falling of the stars in the 1800’s.But
now, with what is happening in the universe, could this text also apply
to us now? But
this is not all that is happening.In
the sun itself an intense solar flare activity such as they have never
before is happening and is getting much worse (see enclosed article).And
on Saturn Another thing that is happening without explanation is a massive
lightning storm that is being observed.Lightning
bolts that are one thousand times stronger than anything seen on earth
are being unleashed almost continuously.There
have now been 35 episodes of this lightning storm and each one has lasted
ten hours. Putting
this together with the Bible’s mention of the Orion and the prophet Ellen
White’s comments about the second coming of our Lord through the opening
in Orion, is God trying to tell the world something about the nearness
of the end of time?To me this is
more than happenstance, for we have no control over what happens in the
universe. This
is what Ellen White described about this: “Dark, heavy clouds came up
and clashed against each other. The atmosphere parted and rolled back;
then we could look up through the open space in Orion, whence came the
voice of God. The Holy City will come down through that open space. I saw
that the powers of earth are now being shaken and that events come in order.
War, and rumors of war, sword, famine, and pestilence are first to shake
the powers of earth, then the voice of God will shake the sun, moon, and
stars, and this earth also. I saw that the shaking of the powers in Europe
is not, as some teach, the shaking of the powers of heaven, but it is the
shaking of the angry nations.”(Early
Writings 41,42) Here
are the Bible verses about Orion: "Seek Him that maketh the Pleiades
and Orion, And turneth the shadow of death into the morning, And maketh
the day dark with night; That calleth for the waters of the sea, And poureth
them out upon the face of the earth (Jehovah is His name)." Amos
5:8, A.R.V. Through
Amos the message of the Lord to Israel was: "Seek ye me, and ye shall
live: but seek not Beth-el, nor enter into Gilgal, and pass not to Beer-sheba:
for Gilgal shall surely go into captivity, and Beth-el shall come to naught.
Seek the Lord, and ye shall live. . . . Seek him that maketh the seven
stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and
maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea,
and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name."
Amos 5:4-8. Connected
with the above statements, are the following passages:“A
world is represented in the destruction of Jerusalem, and the warning given
then comes sounding down along the line to our time: "And there shall be
signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth
distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring." Yes,
the sea shall pass its borders, and destruction will be in its track. It
will engulf the ships that sail upon its broad waters; and with the burden
of their living freight, these will be hurled into eternity. There
will be calamities by land and by sea, ‘men's hearts failing them for
fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth;
for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son
of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.’ In just the same
manner that he ascended, will he come the second time to our world. ‘And
when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your
heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.’(Review
and Herald 1897) Considering
all this, it seems perfectly logical that the Lord is letting us know that
the end of all things is at hand and that he is in the process of returning
the second time to take all the faithful home with him as recorded by Scripture.May
we all be preparing for that day and be ready to meet Him is my prayer.We
will continue to watch and pray as the entire universe is beginning to
react to the approaching judgment of God.
