Newcomerstown, Ohio July 1976, Between 9:30 & 11:00 PM It was July 1976 when my sister, mother and myself were leaving Newcomerstown to go out to the country to visit my relatives. I would say between the hours of 9:30 and 11:00 PM because everyone was awake when we arrived. At any rate, after traveling no more than a mile out of town, I noticed a light in the sky that looked like an airplane.I, being a curious 13 year old boy, decided to watch the airplane. Nothing better to do on the short drive anyways. After we had traveled about 2.5 miles, I noticed this 'airplane' was apparently following us. We reached the peak of a hill and noticed the object off to our left, keeping pace with us. We continued on. After about 3 to 3 1/4 miles and another turn, all three of us in the car noticed the object obviously following us, keeping pace. At one point when it was off to our left, it appeared to be not much higher than tree top level and going about the same speed as the car. We arrived at the house my aunt and uncle as well as 5 cousins lived in. We got out of the car and my mom went and got my seven relatives in the house trailer. They all came outside and observed in shock and amazement this object as it hovered just about tree top level, almost directly above us ! My mom then had my uncle call my grandparents and had them come up and look at what we were looking at. They lived just 100 yards down the road. They too watched this craft as it hovered just above us. Description: It was round in shape. It looked like two coffee cup saucers placed on each other, lip to lip. I have no idea of the color. It was just above the tree tops. I would estimate no more than 150 to 200 feet above us. It had windows on it and this was obvious because we could actually see light inside of it ! It had two or three lights on the top and maybe as many as six lights on the bottom. These lights were multi colored. I honestly do not remember how many of each color, but I do remember red, white and maybe yellow. It made absolutely NO NOISE what-so-ever as it hovered there. When it left, it left as quickly as you would see a flash of lightening. There one second; gone the next. Again, it made no noise. I wish I would have had a video camera then to record this encounter. It was quite fascinating, it was an event I'll never forget, and it is an event that I talk with various family members about from time to time that were present. They all remember it the way I just described it. All witnesses are still alive except my grandmother who passed away in 1988. Many, Many Thanks To Don Keating EOBIC http://www.angelfire.com/oh/ohiobigfoot/home.html Newcomerstown, Ohio April 10, 1996, 9:31 PM "During the six PM newscast of WJW TV 8 in Cleveland (Ohio) meteorologist Dick Goddard mentioned that the MIR Russian space station would be visible tonight (April 10, 1996) beginning at 9:29 PM until 9:35 PM. It would traveling from SW to NE. Richard Myers of Newcomerstown showed up at my door at about 9:05 PM. I kept an eye on the clock and asked him at about 9:30 if he wanted to go outside and watch the MIR go overhead. He said sure. After about 30 seconds of searching for it we spotted it. This would have been at about 9:31 PM and 30 seconds. After watching the MIR for about 90 seconds, an amazing sight got my attention. At a much lower altitude I spotted a triangle shaped object zipping through the sky. I assumed it was triangular shaped because there was colored light at each of the three corners. The one in front was a bluish green color and the back two corners were red colored. The three corner lights were NOT dots, but triangle shaped ! There was a high thin cloud deck of which I estimated to be at 20,000 feet. This object was likely in the thin cloud deck. It was moving at an extremely high rate of speed. It was straight at first, them moved on a zig - zag pattern. The total viewing time would have been about five seconds. It sent chills up and down my spine when I thought of it, for up to 30 minutes after the sighting. I know of no earthly object that could have flown like this thing did. The only thing that I can think of that would rival the speed would be a fighter jet, at full throttle. The object was moving on a general flight pattern of west to east. The object made NO noise at all. I wrote the original report at 10:15 PM the SAME night of the sighting. Many Thanks To Don Keating For Sending Me His Two Reports Also I Would Like To Tell You About A Wonderful Web Site That Don Has. Please Check It Out At: http://www.angelfire.com/oh/ohiobigfoot/home.html Middletown, Ohio There was an incident here a couple of years ago where something was seen around July 4. Once again by police officers, but I also seen it. The report was that it was a hoax, a platform with flares hanging from it. A small plane had received permission from Wright Patterson to fly by it to see what it was. He reported back that it was a platform, but yet after it had become dark outside I was still watching it through binocolars and seen a fighter jet (F-14)? come out of the North, the direction of WPAFB, fly just past the object, U turned and headed back North. Now what I can't figure out, is if it was a hoax and was reported as that, the why did the Air Force feel the need to send a jet out to confirm this? Thank you Yulanda For Your Report Akron, Ohio 1999 In Akron, Ohio last Summer I saw a silver-gray disc, about the size of a dime if I held it to the sky to blot it out, in the late afternoon-early evening sky. This disc just weaved in and out of a cloud at about 60 degrees off the horizon. The reason I call it a UFO is because it changed directions on a dime. It completely reversed it's direction and sometimes stood perfectly still in the sky. A very strange sight. There were no lights on it, but it was still daylight. After about 5 minutes, the disc went into the cloud and never reappeared. Others were in the parking lot looking at it also. David Oklahoma I live in rural Oklahoma and there have been many sightings in this area. I walked outside one night and saw what I thought at first was a bright star. I observed it for a few minutes and noticed that it seemed to pulsating colors more so than an ordinary star. I retrieved by binoculars and could actually see the outline of a craft with red and yellow lights. It was oval in shape and was stationary for about three hours. The distance of the craft was hard to estimate, but I would guess at about two miles and positioned on the eastern horizon. After three hours of observation with my binoculars it slowly began to move and gradually picked up speed until it suddenly shot up into the night sky like a rocket. It was an amazing sight to see. I have also seen UFOs in Corpus Christi, Texas No one is going to tell me that they don't exist. I saw something a few years ago that was a translucent triangle shaped UFO. It moved very slowly and made no discernible sound. I could see thru it which surprised me (this happened at night). It was very low in altitude, hugging the shoreline traveling west to east. I saw what looked like different colored balls of light bouncing around inside of it (I also saw a blue neon like contrail emitting from the bottom - the other witness doesn't recall this). I wasn't alone and both of us saw something we couldn't explain. The other witness was a metal health professional. (psychologist). Needless to say, he was quite unnerved by this. North Central Oklahoma Sighting My daughter and I experienced "something strange" three years ago and we have both been very curious about it ever since. We have talked about it many times and wondered if anyone else has ever heard of or experienced anything like it. Maybe I should begin by saying that we live in a small town in North Central Oklahoma. We live on a lovely old street with many large old trees and mostly elderly couples as our neighbors. It happened in June of 1997. My husband and I had returned home from a vacation at about 1:30 a.m. My husband had gone to bed and my daughter, then 22 years old, and I had stayed up talking about the trip. At about 3:00 a.m. we decided to go out to our front yard where the car was parked in the drive, and get out some souvenirs from the trunk. While we were standing there looking through the trunk, we both noticed a noise and flash going by us. When we looked up, we saw streams of light that looked something like what you would see in a movie where they used laser beams to shoot with. These streaks of light were about the size around of a pencil and were about 12 feet in length. Actually they resembled the way it looks when you move a fireworks sparkler through the air very fast. There was the main sphere of light about the size of the eraser on the head of a pencil, then it would stretch back up to 12 feet, part of the length being a tail as if the air was burned white behind it. We could see it glowing after the sphere shaped head, but it would end abruptly, just stopping in mid air just as it began, as if it originated and ended in thin air. The color of these light burst were a bright yellow almost white, it was as if the air was on fire with these white hot beams. We felt no heat from them, just the rush of air as they zipped past. A short fast breeze, and the sound of a switch being flicked or an arrow shot through the air at high speeds. The streaks started in different places in our front yard. Some were a few feet higher than our heads and others were about three feet from the ground. Most of them ran horizontal to the ground but others came from out of the tree branches in a 45 degree angle to the ground, and others would start about three feet from the ground and shoot up at about a 30' angle. They were all moving in straight lines, no curving or bends. These light beams were moving faster than anything alive could possibly move. They would start and then end in a disappearing trail almost like a comet. At first we were both surprised and looked around for something causing these light streaks. It didn't take much time to realize that they were not man made or coming from any kind of machine. There was no one else anywhere around, it was a beautiful and quiet night. We also realized that they were not just streaks of light because they could be heard and felt. The entire "happening" couldn't have taken over three minutes before it stopped. These streaks just started in different places around our front yard and a few in our next door neighbor's yard and there must have been maybe 25 of them in all. I was so scared after hearing and feeling and seeing these streaks that I took off and ran to the house. My daughter stayed a few seconds longer and remembers some of the streaks being a bit larger around than pencil size. She recalls a few being almost golf ball sized. They did not start from one single light ball but came from many different places in our yard. I'm not saying that these things we saw are supernatural or UFO's, but I certainly wish someone could tell us if they had experienced anything like it, or have ever heard of anything like this. Anonymous Silvery Disc Shaped Object June 21, 2000, 4:00 PM June 21, 2000 under a clear sky at around 4:00 PM, I stopped my westbound car in the left hand turn lane at Southwest 90th Court and Tualatin Sherwood Highway, and while waiting for the signal to change, I observed a silvery disc shape in my line of sight behind the traffic signal moving southward at about 20 degrees above the horizon nearly due west of my location. The object was approximately the size of a pencil eraser held at arms length, and moved only 2 to 3 inches, using the same measure, when it appeared to blink out after only a short time and did not reappear while I was looking for it in the minute or so I waited before making my turn under the green light. I am a 51 year old welder with more than six prior sightings, some in the tri-county (local) area, and others in Eastern Oregon dating back several years. Sighting From Ephriam Bahr On Sunday at appox. 12:30 - 1:00 AM in Salem, Oregon while taking the garbage out I spotted a bright orange light hovering in the eastern sky at about 4 degrees above the horizon. It appeared to be over the Cascade Mountains or the east part of the Willamette Valley. The light was about the size of a car headlight as seen at about two hundred feet distance. It "bobbed" up and down gently for several minutes and had no other lights or strobes around or near it. After watching it for a few moments I went back in the house got get my wife and then returned to the place by the garbage can where I had spotted the object. When I returned it was still there and still "bobbing" up and down and appeared to be gradually moving closer. After a few more moments my wife came out and saw it, she said, "call my sister". I had forgotten that I had a cell phone in my coat pocket as I don't carry it with me very often. As I handed her the phone, the object seemed to start moving in a southerly direction. It was a clear night then except for a thin/to moderately heavy formation of clouds moving in from the south and east of our location. As a phone connection was made from our phone to my mother in laws house on the other side of town where my wife's sister lives, the object began picking up speed; gradually, and moved into or behind the cloud formation as it moved father south. There was a bright moon that night so we continued to see as it moved, and it faded in and out as it moved through the more dense parts of the clouds. It eventually disappeared as it moved to far to the south for us to see. It remained a bright orange constant color the entire time that I watched it. It did not "blink" or "pulse" in any manor. My sister in law never saw this as she was at the store at the time. Our niece answered the phone. She didn't see it as she would not go outside to look, as she is not interested in such things. If anyone else on the west coast saw anything peculiar on this same evening I would love to hear about it. Ephriam - at: eephriam@aol.com Corvallis, OR April 9, 2001, 10:00 PM I am reporting this for my nine-year-old daughter who calmly relayed this information to me the following morning. I would like to note that we do not discuss UFO topics with her, and therefore I seriously doubt that she would have dreamed this up on her own, infact I was struck by the amount of information and details that she related to me. We are guessing the time to be around 10:00 PM; she had been lying in her bed looking out the window when she saw a bright ball of fire streaking across the sky. She said the round object was very bright with orange and red colored flames or sparks coming off the back of it, and moving very fast, faster than an airplane, and made no sound. From her description, the direction seemed to be east to west. Pennsylvania Sighting We live near the flight path of an airport, and are familiar with seeing various types of aircraft at night. We saw an object that was like looking at a 1/8 slice of pizza, flying with the crust end forward. This front section was covered with numerous white non-blinking lights. We only saw the silhouette against the sky. The nearly triangular shaped object was seen in the sky at the same time that an aircraft, believed to have been a commercial airliner which was moving towards Pittsburgh. The object was above the airplane, and it stopped as the aircraft continued on it's course. Then suddenly the object began to pace the airplane, and quickly caught up to it.The object was then in a diagonal position with the plane. A bright beam of light was then emitted from the side of the object, and was directed on the aircraft, This beam of white light which at first was narrow, began to expand, and it completely illuminated the airplane. Seconds later, the beam if light vanished. At this point we lost sight of the event. We ran and asked others to come out to see, when they did all we could see was a faint white light moving far in the distance. Stan Professional In Photography I was out on a photographic class project, shooting some landscape shots when the sighting occurred. I observed a "V" formation of six or seven lights moving east above the moon. The lights were an orange-pinkish-white color, very luminous and non-blinking. They were slow moving, and the last lights were observed at 7:35 p.m. I did attempt several photographs of the light formation, and is waiting for development of the film. Rick Pittsburgh, Pa. Sighting Report June 30, 1996. Place Pittsburgh. Pa. USA time about 8.15 pm. I've been waiting all my life for something other than an unidentified light in the sky, and I think my wait is over. On Sunday, June 30 at about 8.15 pm (wasn't yet twilight) I was laying on my back in the yard recovering from doing yard work. Almost directly overhead, at a distance I was unable to determine was a bright silvery "bar" seeming to move across the sky at about the speed of an airliner, although it was ascending and after about a minute of getting smaller and smaller it disappeared. When I initially sighted the object, it appeared to be about one inch long and about a third of an inch wide. It was completely rectangular, and as I said, a bright silver. There were no wings visible, nor did I see any running lights. I live three miles from downtown Pittsburgh, PA, USA. It is definitely an urban area. Kim Pittsburgh, PA July 22, 2000, 6:30 PM. It was a mostly clear day when I noticed a stationary light shinning in the sky. It looked like a star only it was daytime. It seemed to be within the planetary plane so I assumed that it was Venus or a satellite. But, after about five minutes the object just disappeared Pennsylvania Triangles July 11, 2000, (no time given). This is getting scary as I sat out again tonight just to see if these things are still active, they are and I saw something pass directly over me that has me really scared to death. With the moon becoming fuller the sky is not as dark as it was during the past week. Tonight, July 11, 2000, not more than an hour ago, I saw this large shadow moving in the sky, so I grabbed my binoculars. It was not just one, but four triangles moving in a west-east direction. Frank states, "I could see the shadow of triangles because they were darker than the sky above and had a faint lighting the back of them." He said, "They didn't make a sound and that is what scared me sitting out in the dark and seeing these things going over me, WOW." This past week has been the most sky action I have ever witnessed. They traveled in a pattern like this: Thanks to Frank Gualberti Harrisburg, PA. 1986, no time given. In the fall of 1986 I attended a municipal authority meeting in a rural township about 15 miles west of Harrisburg, PA. I was late for the meeting and I pulled into the parking lot which was very dark. I got out of my car and proceeded to walk into the small municipal building, but for some reason I stopped and looked up. It was then I saw an enormous triangular object blot out the stars on the cool and clear night. The object was completely black and I could only tell its outline as it moved across the stars. It moved silently heading directly south down the Susquehanna Valley. The object moved very slowly and in a straight north - south line. I watched it for a few moment and then continued into the meeting. I never saw the object again. What is most interesting to me is the fact that I read no reports in the paper about the object. The area, though rural, is directly adjacent to a state capital with a metro population of 250,000. The sighting took place only ten miles from an international airport and the infamous Three Mile Island nuclear plant. Now I see that similar sightings are taking place around the country. Thanks To David Nikoloff For His Report Lackawaxen, PA April 8, 2001, 2:27 AM I had just gotten out of bed and gone into my bathroom. That area of the house is at the South East corner with a small window of frosted glass facing South. I was half asleep and after using the facility had just leaned over to flush the toilet. Out of nowhere my eyes were filled with an intense bright white light. It was "intensely" bright. Brighter than a welders torch. I heard no noise but am not sure about that since the flush of the toilet was making noise. I went from a state of half asleep to WIDE AWAKE in about one second! I remember being so freaked by the intensity of the light that I said out loud "What((deleted)) is that?" I went to my dresser to get my glasses and went to other windows to see if something was outside. I did not see anything and after getting up the nerve to open up the side door to the deck all I saw was the full moon above to the Southwest. It was somewhat covered by clouds coming out of the Southwest. It could not have been a trick of light from the full moon because the white light was way to bright for that. As I walked around the house looking out of windows for a couple of minutes I noticed that the time on the clock in the microwave just indicated that it was 2:30 A.M. The light seemed to be descending from above more than simply passing by. Perhaps it was only the remnants of a meteorite falling very close to the house. Pocono Mountains of PA Location: The sightings were 2 1/2 miles north of Mt.Pocono and about 4 or 5 miles east of the Tobyhanna Army Depot, which is in the beautiful Pocono mountains of PA. Formation: No formation Other Witnesses: Yes there were 3 other people with me. Up here in Pa.U.S.A it has been a pretty wild year...The same night (last night) I was only out for 30 minutes stargazing. We saw 8 UFO's ..On July 8th my friends came for a few days visit. They love to visit me and star gaze because I am high up on a mountain and they can see the stars better than where they are from. They arrived at 1 am. We were sitting at the kitchen table having coffee.(4 Women)It was raining out so we were not star gazing that night. Don't know the time but it was between 2 and 3 am,when my son walks out the front door. Said nothing to us ,just walked out the door. We all thought "what is he crazy, it's raining". Suddenly the whole house started to vibrate. The floor, wall, ceiling. I'm not too sure how long it lasted but maybe around 15 to 20 seconds and then stopped suddenly. Then it happened again and stopped. We were all shocked at what had happened. My first reaction was to open the front door to see where my son was. We did open the door a few times and put on the front door light and turned it off. It was raining and we looked straight across the front yard. We never thought to look up or scan the yard in the dark. My son was gone for a while, How long I can't seem totell you. But when he finally came to the door he had to knock to get in because we were so scared after it happened we locked the door. When he walked in his clothes were completely dry. Not a drop of rain on him. When he walked in he told us there was a ship right over the house and that he saw an alien standing in the yard right under the living room picture window. He said he was taken. I find it odd that when I opened the door with my friend we did not even think about looking up or even look close to the house.. All we did was look straight ahead...Odd...The whole time they were visiting me we saw ships every night. On July 8th or the next night ,not sure, sometime after 10 or 11 pm my friends and I were star gazing. I went inside to get something. They were all on the back deck and started yelling for me to hurry and get outside now. But by the time I got out it was gone. They saw a huge ship. At arms length it was 4 inches bug. It was shaped kind of like a crab. The whole body glowed bright crystal white. It came up in back of a jet liner and kind of followed it. Before it caught up to the liner it shot up so fast it just disappeared. I'm sorry I missed it. Well I feel from now on more and more ships will be seen at night and soon ships will be seen in thedaylight hours...... Thank you to the person who sent the report (name deleted) Narragansett, RI May 4, 2001, 9:10 PM At dusk, while watching fireworks displays in the area, we were setting off a few fireworks on a cliff by the ocean shore. We observed a Roman Candle set off behind us and turned to watch it. I watched the trail of smoke emitted from it, but then immediately adjacent I saw a trapezoid-shaped, black object moving slowly and silently at an altitude of no more than 2,000 feet. I called out to my two sons, a friend, and my nephew who all watched with me as the "object" continued to move East out over the ocean in between the haze and dark clouds at a speed of no more than 50 or 60 mph. The object then accelerated to about 100-150 mph and then seemed to vanish within the clouds. We were all deeply awed, and all of us repoted seeing the exact same shape, height, and speed of this object--we all dismissed it as too large to be a "stealth fighter or bomber", or even a large dirigible. We estimate it to be about 80 or 90 feet tall and about the length of two football fields. Cherryville Sighting Early 1980's These sightings happened sometime ago, so I'll tell you what I remember Around early 1980's, in Cherryville, I was inside my house with my Dad and sister and we had the radio playing. All of a sudden, it started acting up peculiar. I had heard that UFOs can do this to anything electrical. (cause them to act strangely). So I got my Dad and little sister to come outside with me and take a look. I remember it was night time and very dark. Anyways, going across the sky directly to the north of us was an object of many different colors. It appeared to be going westward at a leisurely pace over the area of Sugar Lake. The other sighting was in Lavington in the mid 1980's over the mountains to the north. It appeared to be a metallic silver disc, once again, heading in a westerly direction just above the mountain tops. I hope you find this information useful. Again, it was such a long time ago, that is all I can tell you is what I remember of the two incidents. Friend Hartsville, South Carolina June 24, 2000, 11:00 PM. On Saturday, Heather M. and her friend "were in the pool" when out of the corner of my eye, I saw what I thought was a shooting star. When I saw it through the corner of my eye, I believe it was heading east, then turned north. By the time I got my head turned around, it was going east again." I believe it had been going for a while before I saw it over my right shoulder." "The thing I saw was going faster than anything I've ever seen before and was about the size of a pinpoint but shiny white. It didn't have a tail, and I can't tell if it burned out or not because it flew behind some pine trees." Heather added that "nobody believes what I saw" except for her mother, who sighted a UFO in 1992. Hartsville, S.C. (population 8,400) is on South Carolina Highway 15 about 45 miles (72 kilometers) northeast of Columbia, the state capital. South Carolina Summer of 1990, (no time given) I am 28 years old, live in South Carolina. My father and I were driving home late one night about 10 years ago from an auction sale. There was cars behind us, not the type of situation you usually hear of when talking of a close encounter. My father was driving his old van. There is no air conditioning, so windows were rolled down. (this was in summer). I saw a light in the sky, and commented to dad that they (police) must be looking for someone, to be careful in case they ran out in front of us. I thought at that time it was a spotlight from a helicopter. As we came closer to the light, I saw it was not a helicopter, then I thought it was a plane. I continued to think this until it hovered on the road ahead of us. Dad drove under it, I stuck my head out the window to get a look at it from underneath. It was triangular in shape, huge craft. One point was lit up, like a cockpit, but I could see light on the bottom, it was clear. The spotlight was in the middle of the craft, pointed away from the road. There was sections underneath, with pipes etc.... I can visualize what it looks like, but I am unable to describe it any further. It is as if there is something blocking me being able to describe it. I don't remember us driving out from under it, but I do remember me saying to dad, that was something, and he looked at me and said what ?, and the cars hat were behind us were gone too. I don't know what time of night this happened, I looked at my watch right before we went under it, but I don't remember the time. Lou Anne South Carolina 1958 In 1958, I was a member of the South Carolina Air National Guard. One weekend, around 1958, we were at drill, and during the pilot briefings, we took a break outside. We looked up and saw a bright silvery object, very high. We all admired this object for a while, and speculated about what it could be. The conjecture was that it was probably some sort of high altitude balloon. One of our pilots volunteered, and asked the CO if he could take one of our F-80s up and take a look at it. The F-80 was the first operational combat jet fighter for the USAF, and it was kind of slow to climb, and it took a considerable time for the F-80 to get above 40,000 feet, which was darn near as high as the F-80 could climb. The pilot never got to the altitude of the object, and never got a close look at it. The most likely explanation for the thing was that it was one of the Operation Skyhook balloons. A few years later, a pilot joined our unit who had been involved in those high altitude flights, fellow named Demi McClure. He had a harrowing experience during one of those flights, and you can read about it in the March 1963 Readers Digest. I could be wrong about the exact issue, but it was around that time. Chuck Eastover, South Carolina 1965, Time between 4:00 PM & 12:00 AM I was working the swing shift, 4 PM to midnight, in the Control Tower at McEntire ANG Base, Eastover, SC. As twilight fell, I noted a very bright object (pinpoint size) in the eastern sky. I called the weather observer's attention to it, and he admired it for a bit, then resumed out duties. I then received an off base phone call from the gate guard at Ft.Jackson, SC, who asked me if I saw a UFO in the sky. I replied, "No, but I do see a very bright planet in the east - is your UFO in the east ? He too a few seconds, then replied that it was in the east. I told him it was just a planet. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from Fertile, the GCI site at Fort Fisher, (or Ft. Lee, forget which) who asked me if I saw anything in the east. I said, yes, but it's a planet. At this time, I was getting kind of interested. The GCI controller said that he had a contact at 5000 feet, 5 miles east of my position. That would be about where I was seeing the object. I asked him if the object was moving around, the reply was negative. Hmm, more and more interesting. Shortly thereafter, the GCI controller called back and asked if it would be OK to scramble one of our alert aircraft to take a look at the object. I told him that I didn't have the authority to approve that, but I could see if the senior pilot on alert was compliant with that request. He was, and I told the GCI controller that if they could come up with some way to get an approved scramble for an ID, to go ahead. He said he would, and I alerted the pilot to be ready, and advised the pilot of the target altitude, and position, and to be careful to deconflict on the altitudes. Shortly thereafter, the aircraft, an F-102, was scrambled. Sometime during these events, the gate guard called back and said he was not convinced that it was a planet, because this UFO was moving around. I figured this was a classic case of autogenesis, and told the guard to step outside, find a tree and position himself so the UFO was in the branches, and see if it continued to move around. Meanwhile, the F-102 was being positioned for an intercept on the GCI radar contact. The aircraft made repeated "attacks", merging with the contact each time, but never got a visual or radar contact. While this was going on, the gate guard called back and stated that it wasn't moving around now, but that it was moving before. I told him we had an aircraft in the air, and to hold onto the phone. The aircraft came back on tower frequency, and I asked him if he would fly over the Ft. Jackson gate and directly toward the planet. "Roger". I told the guard to watch for the aircraft, and let him know what the pilot was going to do. Soon, the guard said, I see him, he's headed directly toward it. I then told the guard that I, the weather observer, and the pilot had all seen the planet, and we agreed that it was a planet. The guard seemed quite disappointed, and disbelieving, and stated he still thought it was an UFO. He never called back. Later, the GCI controller told me that he had checked with his weather people, and they informed him there was an inversion in the area, which explained the anomalous radar contact. Some time later, the GCI controller called me again and told me that the contact had never moved the whole time and the contact was fading out. This one had possibilities for making the UFO sighting records. Ground witnesses, military - independent radar contact by GCI, and the scramble of an Air Force Jet. It's also a classic example of how people are so anxious to jump onto the UFO sighting bandwagon. Thanks To Chuck Mielke For Showing Us What Can Happen Ashepoe and Gardens Corner CLOSE ENCOUNTER Some years ago, my ex-wife and I were traveling through South Carolina by car and pulling a small U-Haul trailer. The weather was clear and the temperature was warm. To the best of my knowledge, our location was U.S. 17 South, midway between Ashepoe and Gardens Corner, about 10 miles west of the USMC Air Station. We were on a dual lane undivided highway, passing through what appeared to be secluded forest. The terrain was fairly level. At the time of the incident, my ex was driving and I was asleep in the back seat. About three a.m. she frantically yelled at me to wake up: "Look! It's coming down the highway behind us! Look!" I jumped up and not being able to see out the rear window, I looked out the right side rear-view mirror. We had a large truck rear-view mirror attached to each side of the car. I had a clear line of sight. Off in the distance, perhaps a half mile away, was a red sphere, coming up on our rear end extremely fast growing distinctively larger by the second. There were no street or house lights; just this glowing red ball, speeding toward us. Within a few seconds, it seemed it was up on us and I yelled out, "Stop the car!" She yelled back, "No way!" I then screamed, "Stop the @#$?x car, now! If it is going to do something it is going to do it whether we stop or not. Stop!" She came to a stop. I jumped over the front seat and said, "Leave the engine running." (I had read reports where some UFO encounters caused engines to stop running.) Getting out of the car fast, I turned to see a huge luminous red sphere, approximately 30 feet in diameter, moving slowly off to the left shoulder of the road, directly adjacent the rear of the car. It then stopped and hovered just above tree top level. I continued staring up at it as I passed around the front of the car. I stopped in the vicinity of the driver's door where my ex was already standing to my left, likewise staring up at this sphere. All that existed for me at that moment was this huge red orb against a very black sky. I felt complete excitement with maybe a hint of danger because of the profundity of the situation. I recall standing there, focused intently on the sphere. As I looked, I tried to "see" through the red glow into whatever was behind that red glow. There was absolutely no doubt in my mind that some form of intelligence was within that sphere, looking back at me. I continued to stare for I don't know how long. It could have been several minutes or longer. An electrical sensation like chills ran up and down my spine, neck, and the top of my head. My hair felt like it was trying to stand up. I did not feel fear and did not think any thoughts. I was in a state that I can only describe as awe. It was a perfect sphere, with a precise, sharply defined edge at the circumference. It was absolutely a flawless edge. I have some difficulty differentiating the various shades of the colors red and green. (With some help from a friend, I have been able to determine fairly closely the color that I saw that night.) It was luminous red. It could have had some orange in it, but if so, it was not much. It almost seemed like the sphere was made up completely of fire. Almost, but not quite. It is difficult to describe. Whether this red glow spilled over beyond the border of the globe itself, I did not notice, but it seemed to me to be self-contained. I was not aware of any trees lit up by the glow. My total focus was on the globe itself. I knew this was the most significant event of my life up to that point, but I did not "think" these thoughts. It was just a knowing. I did not hear any communication, see any symbols or pictures, or have any thoughts of anything in particular that I can clearly define. The sphere was close enough that I could have thrown a rock and hit it. There was an eerie silence associated with this event. It did not give me the clear impression it was a metallic object. It did not give me the clear impression it was not a metallic object. It did have the appearance of a sphere in 3D. The sphere was definitely there before me in space/time but it had an aura of unreality to it that is difficult to define. The object appeared to be solid, but it was somehow "different." This "differentness" could be accounted for if it was some type of holographic projection (and that would imply a projector). Whatever it was, it was under intelligent control. Of that I feel certain. There was no question in my mind that it was an object of extraterrestrial origin. There was absolutely no chance of it being a hallucination, swamp gas, Venus, reflected light, ball lightning, a meteor, etc. The next thing I became aware of was feeling a movement next to me. It was my ex. I became more aware of her, At this point, something seemed to be a little different. My focus on the globe was now divided by this "differentness." Still focusing on the sphere, I heard her begin to moan softly. I was beginning to feel a little uneasy. I wanted to maintain my focus on the sphere, but her moaning was becoming more and more pronounced. It finally got so bad that I was sure she was on the verge of a total mental breakdown, right there on the spot. Perhaps the reality of what was taking place finally dawned on her and she could not handle that realization. I felt her turning within herself, sort of cringing, becoming more terrified with each passing moment. I put my arm around her and tried to comfort her. She was shaking. I was feeling acutely uncomfortable and felt a twinge of fear, probably from sympathetic resonance. I looked up at the sphere and wanted to pierce this mystery, but I had to do something. I finally said, "Come on," and guided her around to the passenger side of the car, stealing glances at the orb every chance I could, and put her inside the car. She was still moaning. As I walked back around the front of the car to get in, I was still looking at the sphere. I was torn now between many emotions: fear, concern for my ex, and disturbed that I was having an experience that was probably the most significant event of my life and I had to disengage from it. I was disturbed, perplexed, and not really wanting to leave, yet not really wanting to stay either. The engine must have still been running (I don't recall thinking about it) and I put the car in gear and started driving slowly forward, continuing to look back at the red sphere. It then began moving "jerkily" or "awkwardly," while bobbling a little. This bobbling was just barely perceptible. It then slowly floated horizontally and crossed the road behind me, and continued moving slowly along. I had lost sight of it for a few moments and then turned to my right to watch it through the passenger side windows. It was moving slowly but steadily through the trees. I had the impression of a "soap bubble" sort of bobbling along, almost like the contour of the land somehow affected the altitude of the object. As I picked up a little speed, the road began turning and the trees eventually blocked my view of the object. As I reached the bend in the road, there was a discontinuity in my recall of the experience. I would estimate roughly an hour or so later, I pulled into a gas station. It was still dark. I don't remember discussing the incident at all with my ex. In retrospect that seems unusual, in that what I perceived as the most important event of my life was not even discussed by us. This is unusual. Obviously we were both deeply affected by this experience. I want to state emphatically, I do not feel there was missing time during the experience. I do not feel I was abducted. I was not aware of any interruption in the timeline/sequence of events until after I had driven away. Before the close encounter experience described herein, I had had two previous UFO sightings at a distance, which affected me very deeply. These two experiences became a catalyst for me to study whatever material I could get my hands on regarding the subject of UFOs and related paranormal phenomena. I have studied these matters for about 30 years now. Before having the aforementioned experience in 1975, I do not recall reading anything about luminous red orbs. If this orb encounter were some kind of hallucination brought about as a result of a deep desire to see a UFO, I would have had the image in my mind of the classic disc-shaped dull metallic variety of UFO, not a globe-shaped craft. The lenticular type of craft has always fascinated me. I believe there is some sort of mental connection associated with these phenomena. For example, I will relate the following to illustrate this strangeness factor: My ex and I were together for about a year and a half before this experience and I had discussed the subject of UFOs with her on occasion. She had never seen a UFO and did not believe in them. I recall specifically telling her, "One day you'll be with me and you'll see one and then you will believe." I don't know to this day why I said that. The fact that I "knew" she and I would one day have an experience together suggests there is some mental/energy connection behind experiences of this nature. Since 1975 I have had several experiences which reinforce this theory. |
