PARAPROFESSIONALS
ALL per session jobs are based on district seniority.
This means latch key, summer jobs etc.
If you applied for a per session job such as latch key and did not get it in
your school you can get it in another school. If you know someone in another
school who got the job but who has less district seniority than you,
FILE A GRIEVANCE!!!

If you apply for a summer job and are not given a job you can file a
grievance if you have more district seniority than the person who got it.
However, if you are given a job, even if it is only 3 hours a day and not
the 7 hour job you want, there is then no grievance.
example: Ms A. applies for only summer job xyz. She is rejected but finds
out about Ms K. who got it with less district seniority. She should grieve
by calling the Main office in Manhattan. If Ms A. accepts another summer job, she then has no grievance. The choice is hers.

If you hold a per session job during the year, all others should get a
summer job before you.

example: Ms A. works latchkey during the year. Ms B. applies for a summer
job and does not get it because it was given to Ms A. who has more district seniority. Ms B. SHOULD CALL THE MANHATTAN OFFICE OF THE UFT AND GRIEVE IT! If Ms B. takes another summer job even if it is for less hours, she then has no grievance.

PARAS HAVE DISTRICT SENIORITY FOR ALL PER SESSION JOBS. SINCE LATCHKEY,
SUMMER JOBS ETC. ARE DISTRICT JOBS, YOU ARE NOT RESTRICTED TO YOUR OWN
SCHOOL !!!

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS SEE YOUR CHAPTER LEADER.

2. TEACHERS

Teachers have retention rights. EXAMPLES:
Grades 3-6: Licensed common branch with retention rights gets the job.
GradesK-2: Early childhood licensed teacher has preference before a common
branch teacher without retention rights. It is experience in the district
that counts. ANY QUESTIONS, SEE YOUR CHAPTER LEADER
