Clinton was elected in 1992 and his presidency was generally viewed as a success. However with the Monica Lewinsky scandal, his popularity plummeted and he is currently the butt of thousands of jokes. Clinton was also involved in the Whitewater affair, in which he was accused of having participated in fraudulent loans and land deals in Arkansas and of having used his influence as governor to block investigation of his business partners.

While many Americans still think low of the former President, the nation was led into the most prosperous decade in history. The Clinton presidency marked the longest period of economic expansion in history. As the economy continued to grow, the nation maintained low levels of unemployment and inflation.
