The Jewel is in the Lotus
"I will find the jewel," he said
and he strived to make good
on his boast.
He worked night and day,
threw his family away and
commuted from
coast to coast.
Much admired he was for
his striving. "A great man of business,"
they said.
"I'll find that jewel,"
he thought to himself.
"If I have to search 'til
I'm dead."
And dead it nearly got him,
his heart failed him at
age forty five.
Alone, hooked up to machines,
he reflected on how
to survive.
A old man in saffron did visit,
his room all alone
late one night.
He said "Son, what you seek,
what you strive for, was always
within your sight."
Om mani padme' hung, sang the
yellow robed sage. "Join my chant.
See what you find."
He joined in the song,
Om mani pedme' hung,
and to compassion, awakened
his mind.
It had always been there
he discovered.
The jewel he'd sought
near and far.
And here the truth lay,
uncovered:
"What you seek, you
already are."
