MEMBERSHIP

Membership in UHEXSO is open to all individuals interested in historical diving equipment and in underwater exploration and activity as outlined on our web site. Those under the age of 18 wishing to join UHEXSO must have a parent or guardian sign the application. All members are asked to pay dues to help cover some of the administrative costs and costs of equipment and consumable items used on UHEXSO projects. Event fees are sometimes required to defray the costs of a specific project or event. UHEXSO tries to keep event fees below $25 per person. Event fees do not include site fees or other fees which may be charged by third-party sponsors. Event fees do not cover personal travel, accommodations, or food unless stated. Please read the UHEXSO FAQ Page carefully. Should you have any questions or concerns, e-mail us at: UHEXSO@airmail.net

UHEXSO POLICIES CONCERNING DIVING ACTIVITIES: Much of UHEXSO activity centers around diving. Dive training and certification, however, are not required to join UHEXSO. Members may participate in a variety of advisory, technical or support roles. Indeed, much of the work involved in making dive operations safe and successful takes place on the surface. Members may be involved in on-site assistance to dive teams, shipboard duties or other related functions. Unless otherwise stated, all UHEXSO dive functions will be conducted in accordance with safe and accepted diving practices as laid out by OSHA, USCG and accredited diving schools and programs. All divers will follow the USN Standard Air Decompression Table unless otherwise authorized by the on-site Diving Supervisor. Enriched Air, NITROX and Mixed Gas are forbidden on the dive site unless the dive requires technical diving protocols and/or permission is given by the Dive Supervisor on site. Safety is UHEXSO's first priority; the Diving Supervisor reserves the right to refuse diving privileges to any individual who may pose a risk to his or her own personal safety or the safety of other dive team members. More about UHEXSO's diving polices can be found on the Diving Policies and Rules Page.

Due to the hazards inherent in diving, only divers with a certification from a recognized diver training organization or from an accredited commercial or military diver training program will be permitted to dive underwater using UHEXSO equipment or at UHEXSO events or activities. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

POLICIES CONCERNING DIVER TRAINING

Prior training in surface-supplied diving equipment is not necessary to dive with UHEXSO. UHEXSO has trained divers in the techniques of surface-supplied diving with much success. Such training will be done gradually and in accordance with UHEXSO diving guidelines. Divers will be introduced to surface-supplied diving and tending with band-masks, leading progressively to more complex equipment including modern and antique air-hats. UHEXSO reserves the right to waive this policy in special cases, and to update these policies as needed. In some cases, diving equipment used by UHEXSO is privately owned, and the owner of said equipment shall retain the right to control its use.
