Jack Reed

Class of 43

E-mail - jreed@hsnp.com

My name is Jack LeRoy Reed, born Des Moines IA 8-22-25.

Yup!, I graduated from U-Hi in May 1943.  That's a long time ago.
Probably not too many of us left around.  I lived in Solon, my dad was
the Conservation Officer at the then Lake MacBride.  It was much smaller
then.  The Coralville Reservoir was still on the drawing boards.  I
played football at U-Hi in the old Eastern Iowa Conference.  It was made
up of West Branch, West Liberty, Anamosa, Mt. Vernon, Monticello, and we
usually played Richland for an off game.  We were undefeated in '42.  I
guess there were a couple other schools, but darned if I can remember
them right now.  That's what happens at 75.  I left after graduation for
the Naval Aviation Cadet Program and was commissioned in the Marine
Corps.  Flew Corsairs in WWII, Korea and flew jets in Vietnam.  I
retired in July '76 after 33 years, 3 months and 19 days of service.
That's what the record said.

My wife and I moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas in '76.  We live in
a retirement, gated community with 8 golf courses (championship of
course), 5 lakes and many other amenities.  All within our fence.  We
have large lakes nearby the largest being Lake Ouachita.  In Hot Springs
there is Lake Hamilton and Lake Catherine and 20 miles south is Lake
DeGray.  All of them good fishing lakes.  In fact next week they will
have the Red Man Fishing Tournament here.

Not bad living here, climate is agreeable, very little or no snow (we
had our first snow in over 1100 days in March.), summers bearable and
lots to do.

I attended one reunion of my class of '43, in '93 in Iowa City.  Lots of
our class of 53 souls were there and of course many were amongst the
missing.  I have no correspondence with any of them at this time.  Don't
even know if they have e-mail addresses or not.

So there you are.  Any questions.  Have lots of unassailable
generalities if you want them.

So sign me up with the bunch.  jreed@hsnp.com is the handle.

How about them Hogs!
