E! Wild About Harry
E!: This is one of the most coveted roles ever auditioned for. Did you have a degree of confidence when you went into the audition process?
Dan: I had barely any confidence, but I had a lot of hope. And.. I.. because you have to go in with a certain amount of hope.. otherwise.. or believe in yourself, otherwise there's really no point in auditioning.
E!: Was there some initial reluctance on the part of your parents to put you in this position? And why?
Dan: They only had one concern. Was.. when I got out for a role, I was very lucky to get Tailor of Panama and David Copperfield. I was very lucky. But I had a tendency to get my hopes up, and go in with a huge amount of confidence. But, well.. not a huge amount of confidence, you know.. I got my hopes up. And my parents knew there were millions upon thousands of millions of boys going out for the role, so they didn't want me to get my hopes up and then be really disappointed.
E!: Is it possible to anticipate how your life might change as a result of this role?
Dan: Well, I think if it had been going to change, it would have changed by now. If it has changed at all, it's changed for the better.. and cause I still keep in contact with all my friends, and plus I've made loads of new friends.
E!: Can you give someone advice who has been thrust into the spotlight as you have?
Dan: Just enjoy it. Cause there are a lot worse things going on in the world than being recognized. So, just enjoy it.
[About the phone trick]
Dan: I changed Robbie Coltraine's phone language to Turkish.
[Favorite scene]
Dan: My favorite scene to see was probably the final chamber, because it's like.. it's really epic in size, and pretty scary too.
[About the dolls]
Dan: I think mine looks very like me actually. I'm very pleased with mine. I feel really, really priviledged. I mean, how many boys my age get to be an action figure, or on a bus, or on a billboard?
[About the Chamber of Secrets movie]
Dan: The 2nd one is going to be funnier, and scarier. So, it's going to be even like the first one on a kinda bigger scale, I think.
E!: Did the author tell you when we might expect 5, 6, or 7? Any hints about those?
Dan: No.
E!: Okay.
Dan: I don't really want them cause you know, it kind of spoils the surprise.

Nick.com
Nickelodeon Magazine: Do you think you look like Harry Potter?
Daniel Radcliffe: Without my glasses, I don't think so. But with my glasses, I suppose I do quite.
Nickelodeon Magazine: Do you wear glasses normally?
Daniel Radcliffe: I'm supposed to, but I don't. I break them. I lost half a tooth on my first pair. I chewed the end of my glasses so much that half of my tooth came off.
Nickelodeon Magazine: What would you change to make your school more like Hogwarts?
Daniel Radcliffe: I'd change the subjects to magical subjects. And there are a lot of paintings in my school, so I'd want them all to talk.
Nickelodeon Magazine: Are you an athlete like Harry?
Daniel Radcliffe: In gymnastics I'm quite good, but I'm not as good as my stunt doubles were. I'm good at running and I'm good at athletics.
Nickelodeon Magazine: Would you be a good Quidditch player?
Daniel Radcliffe: I'd probably be okay. I'd enjoy whacking those balls towards people. By the way, when I said that I was good at athletics, I didn't mean to boast.
Nickelodeon Magazine: What kind of candy did they make for the movie?
Daniel Radcliffe: The Every Flavor Beans were great because they really did taste of all different flavors. And the Caldron Cakes-- they were made of marzipan with sprinkles on them. When I took a bite I got really bad indigestion.

Were you nervous at your audition?
I was very nervous. I came out of the first one thinking that I messed up really badly. And then I came out of the second one thinking, "Well, that was okay."
Where were you when you found out you got the job?
I was in the bath. It was David [Heyman, the film's producer] who called, and he told my dad. He rushed upstairs and told me, and I started to cry--with joy, of course.
How did you prepare for the movie?
Because J.K. Rowling and [screenwriter] Steve Kloves portray Harry so well and bring out his character, it's quite easy to get into his mind.
Any embarrassing moments from the set you can share?
There's one scene where we ran down the corridor and we had these books with leather straps holding them. And we had to run, sit at our desk, and unwrap them. Well, Rupert [Grint, who plays Ron] unwrapped his really fast and it actually flew out into the air and hit him in the eye!
What's your favourite scene or set?
Probably the Final Chamber. It's really huge and intense. And it's very frightening.
Any other really cool ones?
The Chess scene, where there are giant chess pieces. And Devil's Snare--the set was so cool, and it had great special effects.
Anything funny happen during filming?
There's this one scene where Rupert tips a whole box of jelly beans into his mouth and he gets loads of disgusting ones!
Did you have a stunt double?
I did most of the stunts myself, I'm proud to say. I had to fall into concrete, but I was padded. I also hung 22 feet high in the air on a broomstick with one hand when I was doing the Quidditch game.
How did you get into acting?
I was always interested in acting. I knew it wasn't quite likely that I'd become an actor because not many people get to be actors, if you think about how many people want to be. I've been very lucky.

What was your first audition?

David Copperfield. After four months and six auditions I got the part, which was really cool.
Do you find it easy to memorize lines?
After I read a script about three times, it sinks into my head. With Harry Potter, it took about six times because it was a lot bigger.
You're a newcomer at this whole celeb thing. Are you nervous about the movie premiere?
It makes me sorta nervous. There will probably be some huge spot [British for "pimple"] on my nose or something, or I'll trip and fall on my face. I'm not clumsy, I'm just accident prone.
Do you have any upcoming projects?
Just Harry Potter 2. We start filming at the end of this year.
Do you want to make all the Harry movies?
I hope to, but I probably won't. After a while I'll change so much physically that I probably won't look right.

Do you think people will eventually call you Harry instead of Daniel?

It would be cool if they did! I like the name.
