English (HL)Required. Students will study literature written in English and in other languages in translation to English. Course work includes two World Literature assignments, a formal oral commentary, and the IB exam, which is four hours. Two hours are focused on writing an analytical response to a poem or passage. Two hours are focused on responding to an essay question, using specific texts studied in class. Students will be encouraged to focus on the literature itself and to avoid secondary sources. The International scope of the course will help connect students over time and space with other cultures, places and eras, and be a major aspect of the attempt of the students to discover the world-and themselves-through literature. |
