This is it, the start of a
new beginning. I never thought when I started as the
Commissioner of the WHW back in November 2002, that I’d be
here now, an owner of my own federation UHW. But, it’s not
just me being an owner of a federation. I’m actually out here
keeping this thing alive for my friends.
We all can agree that it was a sad day,
when you were told the news, most by me after I
had gotten off of the phone with Jon Criner, he told me
that Eric and him had to quit, something he nor any of us
expected. I ran it through my head, and confirmed it with Jon
many times. The great wrestlers we knew as Grenade and Carnage
were gone. They still had one event left though, and so if
finally came, I begged and pleaded and finally got a way to make
it to the event. I saw Grenade’s last match first hand. I saw
Carnage defeat Highlight to retain the US Title. I saw greatness
leaving the Backyard Wrestling scene for ever.
Jon and Eric taught us many things, they taught us their
wrestling knowledge, they taught us how to make just wrestling
into a great product. But most of all, they taught us
friendship.
I had never in all my life been given
the chance to make great friends like every single person in the
WHW/UHW. They are my family; I knew that just like my real
family, I couldn’t let my family down. So, with Jon’s
permission, I gathered all the remaining WHW guys, and made UHW.
Something to preserve the legacy of what greatness WHW held,
but, we promised to make it even better. We promised to Jon that
we wouldn’t let go of our dreams, and we wouldn’t let go of
something that got him started in the wrestling world.
I
may sound sappy in this column, but that’s how I feel. Forget
all the storylines for this one, this is all real. The man I
loved as a friend, Jon Criner, had to leave to achieve his
dreams, dreams that we all support him on. Jon is the best to
us, and possibly always will be (though he likes to argue
Torment is better). I think we are all man enough to say that we
do love Jon; we love each other, like I said we’re a family.
Nothing can tear us apart. Jon, the boys and I will keep UHW
going, for you, and for ourselves. Also know that the boys and I
will be there every step of the way as you try to achieve your
ultimate goal.
Eric, there’s something for you too.
Carnage was a man we loved to hate, quite possibly one of my
favorite characters. Eric, you’re the man, we may be hard on
you at times, but it’s all for fun. The truth is, you made us
laugh, and you made me cry with that TKO to Kasper through the
table, it was sick. But, we congratulate you as well, because
you did one hell of a job man. You should continue to do that,
because if you do, you too can achieve greatness.
That
about wraps it up, Jon and Eric, there’s always a spot for you
guys here at UHW, the BYW’s Premiere Federation. Until next
time, I’m Matt Ball, and I’m out.
