L&R Hartley Authors' and Illustrators' Moderated Email Server - How does it work?
Secure ~ Safe ~ Spam-free:
L&R Hartley, PUBLISHERS are very aware that authors are targets for spammers (unwanted email) and hatemailers (unwelcomed email). To assist our authors, when our Internet Services Branch sets up a free website for book promotion purposes for our authors, L&R Hartley may also provide a free moderated email server to handle their book-related correspondence.
Optional:
In the permission form we give the author the option to requested to have the publisher's contact details on the website rather than their own. On their website this personalised email address usually has your name on it.
Confidential:
Any mail addressed to the author at this mail server will be forwarded to their personal email address without the sender needing to know their personal details. (Note: This is for book-related correspondence and not for personal emails).
Bi-directional:
The author can then choose to correspond with the enquirer direct - or via our Internet Services Branch if they want their address kept confidential.
Moderated:
This mailbox is also Moderated - that means we have a staff member of our Internet Services Branch personally (and laboriously) check all emails to eliminate duplicates, spam, hatemail, viruses, malicious-damage programmes or attachments, etc before forwarding any on to the author. Note that this is done at our expense, irrespective of how much or how little mail comes in.
Non-moderated option:
If any author would like direct access to this email address so that email comes directly to them and is not vetted by our Internet Services Branch staff, then we can send them a tiny personalised programme for their computer that works in conjunction with Microsoft® Outlook Express. (This enables them to receive this mail using Outlook Express, even if they are already using it for other email). Alternatively, we can set our server to automatically forward all mail to the author irrespective of it's content. By accepting one of these options the author takes the responsibility for (and the consequences of) accepting mail that may include duplicates, spam, hatemail, viruses, malicious-damage programmes or attachments, as well as welcomed email.
The Authors' and Illustrators' Moderated Email Server is a Free Service of L&R Hartley, Publishers.
