UK Club Soccer FAQ
When are tryouts?
We don't have dates set yet, but our open tryouts will be held in late August or early September. The website will be updated, so check back when classes start.
What is the competition level of the team?
Virtually all of our players could have played varsity soccer at one school or another. Some players have transferred from UK's varsity team, others from D-1 through NAIA level teams. Incoming freshmen should expect the pace, physicality, and skill level to be well above anything they encountered in select or high school soccer.
How many players are there on the roster?
Our teams select around 20-22 students to play on the team per year. We have a varying number of returning players each year and get anywhere from 60-100 attend tryouts, so spots are very limited.
How much does it cost to play?
This depends on how many tournaments the team wants to attend for the season. Last year the men's team fees were $125. This included league fees and hotel rooms. I have no figures for the women's team, but know they were less than the men's. Since we don't have a team bus or other transportation, we carpool to away games and gas money is not included in the fees. We do not offer scholarships because the team has limited funding from the university.
How much time does the team require per week?
We try to have practice Monday-Thursday for 1.5-2 hours. This may sound like overkill, but we realize that some people have late classes, work, or studying which take priority a few days per week. This being true, we expect players to make a commitment to the team and attend 2-3 practices per week on a consistent basis. Playing time does reflect on effort and dedication to the team.
I am planning to try out for the team and go through fraternity/sorority rush. Do I have time for both?
We have many club members that are also in the Greek system. However, our recommendation, especially for the men's team, is to wait until your second year to play if you are going to go Greek.
Are LCC students allowed to play?
Yes, any student that is considered 'full-time' by UK or LCC is eligible to play.
