Gulf War Syndrome.
Since returning from the Gulf War large numbers of British and American servicemen and women have complained of illnesses ranging from pains in the joints/muscles to accute depression/aggression and on through to cancers of various types. In America around 10,000 have died, you may think that out of the 500,000 US troops engaged that is not a large figure but when you consider that they were all predominantly young, fit and healthy men and women the figure becomes rather more worrying. In Britain the number of servicemen and women who have died since the conflict stands at around 500, again predominantly young, fit and healthy people. In addition to the problems being encountered by the service personnel themselves a high number of children being born to Gulf Veterans are being born with birth defects. Currently the British Government refuses to accept that there is an illness brought about by Service in the Gulf War and refuse to fund truly independent research into the illness. |
