The Kagyu lineage originates
from the primordial Buddha Vajradhara (a representation of all the aspects
of enlightenment) and has been passed down through a tradition of unbroken
transmission between master and disciple.
The Kagyu lineage was brought from India to Tibet by the great translator,
Marpa. The first Gyalwa Karmapa, Dusum Khyenpa, received the Kagyu
transmission from his guru, Je Gampopa.
The Gyalwa Karmapa is an emanation of Bodhisattva of Compassion, Avalokitesvara,
and his main monastic seat is Tsurphu Monastery, Tibet. After escaping
Tibet in 1959, the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje established
his seat in-exile, Rumtek Monastery, Sikkim. Since the arrival of
the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa into exile, the lineage has spread throughout the
rest of the world and thus continues to benefit countless sentient beings.
Many Dharma Centres were founded due to power of bodhicitta of the
16th Gyalwa Karmapa and other masters of the Kagyu lineage such as Kalu
Rinpoche and Trungpa Rinpoche.
The present 17th incarnation of the Karmapa continues to |
uphold the vow and legacy of benefiting sentient beings by teaching them
the path of ripening bodhicitta through stages of gradual development.
He was born in Tibet and enthroned at Tsurphu Monastery. In January
2000, the 17th Karmapa escaped into exile and he presently resides at Gyuto
Monastery in northern India, close to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.
KARMAPA KHYENNO !
KARMAPA, PLEASE REMEMBER ME !
The power of Buddha Shakyamuni's Bodhicitta is
still felt and prevail until today. The Dharma continues to flourish because
the Sangha engender the same Bodhicitta. We (Samsara beings) too will be
guided through on the path of Bodhicitta development to enable the continous
flow of the Golden Dharma Tab from its un-broken source. The source, Buddha
Vajradhara, in absolute truth is no different and inseparable from one's
own Lama. May we too engender the same Bodhicitta, may the power pevail
and continue to flourish throughout the realm of Samsara for as long as
suffeing beings exist. |
