7 Stilled Lives - Closer Now, Civic Centre Limerick May 1993

A series of installations made in response to the sieges of Sarajevo, Bihac, Gorazde, Zepa and Srebrenitza. It was also a response to the policy of 'containment' adopted by leaders of the international community, particularly the EU of that period. People in Bosnia Hercegovina lived in despair as they existed in a nightmare not of their making, and wondered what the rest of the world was doing, allowing the conflict to continue. The work included responses to the war policy of raping women. The late Jim Kemmy-Alderman and TD, intervened to prevent an official prematurely bringing down the installations. The work was strongly endorsed by visitors to the gallery.
