ACT 1 - 11 - Duet - David and Dasiy

David admits to Daisy that he only volunteered to marry Fountain so he could gain entrance to the village and then elope with her (Daisy) the next day. He needs time to plan their escape, though.

David:

Although within this very hour
There's chance to gain a royal bride,
I'm glad it's still within my power
To choose but you as wife and guide.
And if the very wisest sages
All bade me choose the royal life,
I still would wait throughout the ages
If I could claim thee as my wife.

Both:

Thy smile commands me do thy bidding.
Thy hands direct me to thy heart.
Thine eyes give light, all darkness ridding.
Thy lips, our words of love impart.

Daisy:

Although I've had the strictest warning
To marry only in my clan,
No words have I the fear of scorning
That lead me to another man.
And if the very wisest sages
All bade me keep the Indian life,
I still would wait throughout the ages
If you would claim me as thy wife.

Both:

Thy smile commands me do thy bidding.
Thy hands direct me to thy heart.
Thine eyes give light, all darkness ridding.
Thy lips, our words of love impart.
