AOL CHATDecember 13, 1999AOLiveMC3: Welcome and thanks for joining us, Enrique Iglesias. Enrique Iglesias: Thank you! Question: For your next tour, please say that you will be singing lots of songs from your previous Spanish albums. Enrique Iglesias: Yes, of course, I will be singing all of my songs from this album and all the albums before. Question: First, I would like to say that you are the greatest. Now my question: out of all of your songs, which is your favorite? Enrique Iglesias: It's impossible to choose a favorite. It goes by whatever mood I'm in at the time. Question: Enrique, who are some of your biggest musical inspirations? Enrique Iglesias: I grew up listening to Police, Brian Ferry, Bruce Springsteen, Police and Michael Jackson. Question: What made you decide to do an American crossover album, and do you plan to do more? Enrique Iglesias: I don't feel that it is a crossover album. The first song I wrote was in English, and I grew up in the USA, and I write and sing in both languages. I always try. Question: Where did you get your start, and how? Enrique Iglesias: I started by writing songs when I was 13. And then I recorded them when I was 17, then I was rejected by a bunch of labels, but was signed by a small label when I was 18. Question: How does it feel living under a legend like your father, Julio? Enrique Iglesias: I'm a big fan. I've always been his biggest fan! Question: Enrique, what advice would you give younger generations if they want to become singers? Enrique Iglesias: I know it sounds corny, but when you follow your dreams, it happens, and if it’s music, take it seriously. Question: What is it like being a Latin sex symbol? Enrique Iglesias: I'm not a sex symbol. :) Question: Enrique, how do American girls compare with foreign girls as far as fans go? Enrique Iglesias: Fans are fans, they are there to support you, they are everywhere, they are fans. Fans are fans! Question: Do you ever go on the Internet and check out your fan-created websites? Enrique Iglesias: Yes, I do! I like them, and it is so nice that they take the time to make a web page. Question: What's the best thing about being famous? Enrique Iglesias: You don't have to wait in line at restaurants. Question: What are your ties to the Philippines, if any? Enrique Iglesias: My mom is half Philippine, and my grandmother is half Filipino. Question: Hi, Enrique. I'm going to be seeing you in concert in Detroit this coming Saturday. What kind of performance can I expect from you? Enrique Iglesias: The performance is a radio performance. It will be my musicians, and it will be I and my music. I will sing from many albums. It will be fun! Question: Do you plan on doing any acting in the US? Enrique Iglesias: No, not really. Question: Would you ever consider doing a recording with Ricky Martin? Enrique Iglesias: Yeah, it depends what song. If we both like the song. Question: Hey, Enrique, how was it in Hong Kong when you made your video? -- Andy Enrique Iglesias: I did it in Chinatown, LA. Question: Do you sing any duets on your new album, and if yes, with whom? Enrique Iglesias: Yes, with Whitney Houston. Question: Hey, Enrique, Kikita here. I was wondering how it feels to work with Whitney Houston? Enrique Iglesias: It was great. I grew up with her voice, and I am a big fan. She is amazing. She has great control. AOLiveMC3: There is time for one more question. Question: How big a role has your father played in your music career? Enrique Iglesias: He's really not a musical influence, more of a work ethic influence. Thanks so much for going to my web page and for making web pages for me.
