The Child Within Him

by Karen L. Molano

Enrique, Latin Style, 1999The crowd grew wild as the bright colorful lights filled the stage with splendor. Cheering fans hollered out his name, eagerly awaiting his entrance. The deep thump of the music echoed in the amphitheater, growing louder every minute. A bright spotlight shot to the center of the stage and out came the talented and high rising star Enrique Iglesias. Having the opportunity to attend one of his concerts during his world tour VIVIR, I got a chance to learn about his music and his style as well as feel the excitement and romanticism realized in his singing.

Latin Style had the opportunity to take a closer look at the talented singer as he took a moment out of his busy day to share a bit about himself. Taking a break from his fans, cameras, and reporters, he sat down to eat and enjoy time with his friends and staff. After a long and tiring day, Enrique still shined and gave off tremendous energy to those around him. Enrique Iglesias, a kid at heart, continued his day, enjoying life despite the chaos, the noise, and the many people waiting to interview him. He was never too busy to greet a fan, take a phone call, or laugh with a friend. Enrique unquestionably does not let his fame wear him down. He lives life to the fullest and truly takes pleasure in his work. With his great sense of humor, he makes everyone feel welcome around him. His great looks, amusing personality, and amazing talent melt millions of hearts around the world.

As I sat down, I could smell the scent of cologne on his clothes. "It is the only cologne that doesn't give me a headache. But it must be that natural smell that makes all the girls faint."

He wore black pants and a black shirt, and of course, looked great! "I don't follow any particular style of clothing. I just wear whatever is comfortable to me. It is the same thing I wear to the movies, out to dinner, or anywhere I go." Enrique does not like to disguise himself; he ony wants to portray himself well for the public.

Born May 8, 1975, in Madrid, Spain, Enrique enjoys watching television in his spare time. "I love to watch a typical Hollywood movie." Of course, like many men, he has the bad habit of watching more than three channels at the same time. He enjoys musical theater but has never taken part in a production. "I would be no good at it!" Enrique shakes his body on the dance floor- but no break dancing! "I dance the nutcracker. No, I'm just kidding, I don't dance that." However, he did mention the forbidden dance: Lambada!

What about the girls? This helpless romantic is the perfect prey for women. He does not like to impress a girl with materialistic objects. Instead, he likes to write her a song or take her to a nice secluded place where the two can spend time alone. Enrique seems to have everything; however, he does miss his mother and the food from Spain.

Enrique, who received the Grammy Award for best Latin Pop Performer in 1997 and was recently named the best Latin Artist at the American Music Awards, believes the Latin culture has not yet been fully discovered by the Anglos and the Europeans. "Actually, it is a culture waiting to explode!"

Enrique has already been on a world tour entitled VIVIR, which included thirteen countries. He has popularized his music in three continents including America, Europe and Asia. He adds that he would love to visit Kenya, where we can be sure his astounding talents would be appreciated.

Enrique, Cosas Del Amor photo, Latin Style, 1999Enrique will begin a second world tour introducing his new album Cosas Del Amor in February of this year. This star has already sold millions of copies of his first two albums and his third is still flying out of the stars. Enrique has taken great leaps in his three and a half year professional career. This impressive young artist has already had nine songs rank number one in over nineteen countries all over the world.

Enrique will undoubtedly continue to climb the ladder of success with his enthusiasm and liveliness. He plans on recording an album in English in the year 2000. He sees himself singing for many years. "I want my public to know that I will continue to work hard to give them the best!" He wishes for more peace, health, and happiness in the world. As a romantic, honest, funny, handsome, talented, and straightforward person, Enrique will soar high in life and his career. His music will always leave an imprint on our hearts and in our souls.
