Since his initial appearance on LaChat's "Murder She Spoke," the solo debut from Frayser Boy has been highly anticipated from Three 6 Mafia fans across the country. The wait is over as Hypnotize Mindz drops another independent album to satisfy its legion of fans. Frayser Boy's album features DJ Paul, Juicy J, Crunchy Blac, Lord Infamous, UGK, & Lil Wyte.
1. Gone On That Bay-- nice piano beat intro with a sample of Beethoven's "Midnight Sonata". The track sounds very similar to Lil Wyte's intro to "Doubt Me Now". Frayser rips a couple of verses. Should've been longer but definitely gettin the album off to a good start.
2. Watchin Me-- DJ Paul starts the track off talkin shit to all the haters out there. Heavy basslines with gunshots goin off in the background during the hooks. Frayser goes straight gangsta spittin a couple of verses. "I see these bitch niggaz over there watchin me/I feel a plot maybe thinkin bout poppin me/or maybe cause they know there ain't no stoppin me/they got these bitch niggaz watchin me". It's a pretty good track and gives you an idea that this album ain't gonna be nothin commerical.
3. Nan Notha (f/ DJ Paul & Juicy J)-- if you live in Memphis, chances are pretty good that you've been hearing this song a lot on the radio. Nice choppy beat with a good tempo that makes it the perfect single from the album. The chorus goes "I never ran from a muthafuckin hoe (and never will)/I never wave the white flag in the war (and never will)/I never bowed down to a fuckin sucka (and never will)/I never snitch or cross a real muthafucka (and never will)/who think they bucka than these boys here? (not a nan notha)/who think they bucka than these bitches here? (not a nan notha)/who got more money than these boys here? (not a nan notha)/who got more money than these bithces here? (not a nan notha)". Frayser does a decent job on the mic while DJ Paul recycles a verse from Boogaloo's radio show (same verse he dropped in the booth on Rap City) while droppin subliminals at the haters in Memphis by saying that they think that if they feature ex-HCP artists on their songs, then they can become platinum artists. Juicy ends the song out with a decent verse.
4. Young Niggaz (f/ Juicy J)-- nice gangsta ass beat with some scratchin in the background guaranteed to get ya ass ready to buss some heads. Frayser Boy raps about how he leaves muthafuckas bleedin in the clubs if they insist on testin him. Juicy J drops one of my favorite verses of the year off of a Hypnotize Minds release rappin in a cadence that will have ya head bobbin throughout the song.
5. Bloody Murder-- the track starts off with a phone call to Frayser Boy while the laid back drive-by shooting, gangsta beat kicks in. Frayser Boy drops a couple of verses in the persona of a hit man out to take somebody out of their misery. It's got a good mobby feel to it and keeps the straight gangsta theme going for the album.
6. I'll Bring The Weed-- more laid back beats with deep basslines sure to rattle the ride. Frayser Boy takes you through a day in his life--from going to the booth to spit verses for a song to smoke out sessions. Basically, it's a weed song Hypnotize style.
7. Flickin (f/ DJ Paul & Juicy J)-- nice blend of pianos and basslines on this one make it sure to turn heads if you turn it up in the ride. "When you see me roll on some chrome you know I'm flickin/drop low on 24's you know I'm flickin/when you see me hollerin at hoes you know I'm flickin/everytime I buss on the slab I'm gonna be flickin". Tight song that would make a good follow-up single to Nan Notha".
8. Pistol Playa (f/ DJ Paul & Crunchy Blac)-- the beat on this one is basically a simple combo of hi-hats and basslines over a sample of the Clockwork Orange theme song. DJ Paul drops the hook which goes "nigga talk how you would talk if you didn't have ya gun/you a weak azz niggaz I think ya azz would run/cause you a pistol playa". Decent song but not one of my favorites on the album.
9. I Had To Get'm-- tight laid back beat that makes ya wanna creep up on your enemy and pop em. Frayser Boy comes through with a couple of tight verses about doin just that and takin somebody out with his tone. Frayser raps in a laid back style on the chrous which goes "so I'm fresh up out the pen once again with mask and glock/give me dividends or my friend yo ass get popped/I gotta touch em".
10. Bay Area (f/ Lil Wyte)-- this track has one of my favorite instrumentals that DJ Paul & Juicy J has ever given us. Frayser Boy & Lil Wyte rap about their Frayser (the Bay Area) neighborhood of North Memphis and drop some verses about how they made it out of their neck of the woods to hook up with HCP. The constant chanting of "Bay Area" in the background will just have ya noddin your head to the track throughout. Very tight track.
11. She Swallowed It-- just by reading the track title, you already know what the song is about. The hook goes "she swallowed it but she say she never did it but she say she never did it". It's a nice deviation from the overall gangsta tracks on the album but otherwise, you can skip it.
12. Ooh Wee-- another weed song from Frayser Boy with a beat that sounds like something you'd find on Jay-Z's album. The chorus goes "nigga I've been smoking that ooh wee/have you been smoking that ooh wee". DJ Paul & Juicy J start sampling Project Pat's "Ballers" scattered thru the track too. Another skippable track.
13. Everyday Thang-- Frayser Boy raps about all the things that become regular routine for him. The hook goes "smoke a quarter ounce of dro (it's an everyday thang)/mackin down on a hoe (it's an everyday thang)/hit the strip in the Bay (it's an everyday thang)..." It's an all right song but it's get tired really quick.
14. Niggaz Wild Throwin Bows-- this track has a laid back tone beat while the lyrics Frayser spit are designed to get you crunk as a muthafucka in the club. The song sounds a lot like "Beat Em To The Floor" off Da Unbreakables album.
15. Walk A Mile-- nice laid back army on the warpath type beat. Frayser spits a couple of verses about all the things he's been through from growing up in Frayser to hustlin in the streets to the birth of his child and how you can't criticize him unless you've walked in his shoes and experienced his life firsthand. Frayser spit some real lyrics on this one and make you feel what he's been through.
16. Wish A Mutha Would-- nice clean beat with a bassline similar to LaChat's "You Ain't Mad Iz Ya". Frayser basically rappin about he's fed up and now he wish a muthafucka would step up and challenge him cause he'd fuck him up. A sample of LaChat is playin the background that goes "you don't want none".
17. Closed Mouth-- another LaChat sample on this one with her sayin "yeen know" in the background throughout the song. Frayser Boy comes clean on the mic on this one and will have ya head bobbin throughout the whole song.
18. Hydro Weed-- this track has a island feel to it and sounds like what you'd get if you crossed Project Pat with the Caribbean. Another weed song from Frayser but this one really drags on and on until you finally have to hit the skip button on the cd changer.
19. Chewin (f/ UGK)-- it seems like DJ Paul & Juicy J are bound and determined to get the most out of this song that was a radio single about 2 years ago when LaChat's "Murder She Spoke" album dropped. Since they already used Pimp C's verse on the Like A Pimp Remix on "Da Unbreakables", they use Bun B's verse this time. I'm sure everyone has heard this song at one time or another.
20. Dog Azz Nigga-- Frayser raps about fuckin with his girlfriend's girlfriend when she ain't around if she's willing to offer it up to him. The hook goes "I'm a dog azz niggaz so don't trust me hoe/your friend throwin me the pussy I'm gonna fuck that hoe". Nice clean beat on the track as well.
21. HCP (f/ Hypnotize Camp Posse)-- DJ Paul starts it off with talk about how the ex-camp members ain't sellin shit now that they gone from HCP. Crunchy Blac is next with his best attempt at a rhyme. Juicy J is up next with a verse about his brother Project Pat and how he wish he could turn back the clock so Pat wouldn't be locked up now. Lord is next and comes with a tight verse. Lil Wyte adds a nice verse to the mix too. Frayser Boy is last and raps about how they got the city on lock. It's a nice posse song with that trademark "mafia" chant in the background.
22. Coming Attractions-- outro
Overall, the beats that DJ Paul & Juicy J bring to the table are some of the best they've brought out in the past year. Frayser Boy starts off strong on the first half of the album but it kinda tails off on the back end. The album is better than I had anticipated and is more gangsta and street than Three 6 Mafia's album "Da Unbreakables". Definitely worth pickin up if you're a Three 6 Mafia fan.
