Kulgarr vs. Tauron of the Sundered Lands
Ultrann floats high above the middle of his new Arena as the stragglers in the audience make their way to their seats. "Welcome one and all to Ultrann's Arena!! Today you will all be treated to the very first pit battle, the first of many to come! Today's gladiators are Kulgarr the swarthy half-orc, and Tauron the mysterious man from the Northlands. I hope that you enjoy the battle!" With the cheer of the inaugural crowd, Ultrann floats back to his seating for a better view of the action. Standing beside his man-at-arms Grolsch, he bellows "Begin!!"
With that, the half-orc suddenly appears in front of the east gate. About one second later, his opponent Tauron appears in front of the north gate. Tauron looks disappointed about which gate he came through. Kulgarr, armed with his shortbow, acts first. He fires off an arrow at Tauron, striking him solidly in the shoulder. The crowd erupts in applause! Despite the pain, Tauron fires an arrow of his own, grazing his opponent's leg, before he runs across the Arena towards the pit.
Kulgarr closes the gap, moving towards his running opponent, and fires off another arrow. This arrow also strikes true to the chest of Tauron. In obvious pain, Tauron tries to fire off an arrow but misses badly. He quickly dashes to the edge of the pit and jumps down. The half-orc mutters in frustration and advances to the edge of the pit, bellows "Die!!!" and fires an arrow (unsuccessfully) at his prey down below. Unexpectedly, Kulgarr's advance is suddenly met by a painful whip attack from his enemy in the pit. Two other whip attacks follow in quick succession, sending Kulgarr into fits of pain and rage.
The crowd cheers wildly. The bleeding half-orc realizes he is in trouble, and hastily moves away in the direction of the pillar. His opponent, meanwhile, climbs out of the pit. A brief smile of superiority crosses Tauron's face. Kulgarr fires off another arrow, striking Tauron again in the chest. The pony-tailed half-orc then beats a hasty retreat to the opposite side of the pillar. Tauron, while bloodied, makes a bee-line for the spot beside the pillar that Kulgarr had just vacated.
Tauron hears sounds of an approach from the south-eastern side of the pillar and readies his whips for a quick and deadly attack. However, this was not to happen. Kulgarr has run around to the north, into the open, and fires off an arrow at his target's unsuspecting back. The crowd roars! Unfortunately for Kulgarr, his arrow misses widely, striking the pillar 5 feet to Tauron's side. The crowd lets out a collective groan of disappointment. The Northland warrior is surprised with the sound of arrow on stone and turns quickly, dropping his razor-sharp whips in exchange for his bow. The pain from his arrow wounds seemed to have affected his aim, because he misses his enemy by 10 feet.
Kulgarr, bleeding from his whip and arrow wounds, feels that safety lies in the pit, so he begins to move in that direction. He fires another arrow at the whip-master but again misses. Tauron moves just a few feet in his opponent's direction, takes careful aim and fires. The arrow flies true, striking his opponent squarely in the back. Kulgarr stumbles, falls to his knees, and collapses.
The crowd cheers wildly, chanting "Tauron!! Tauron!!!" for the victor of this inaugural gladiator battle. Tauron moves to his opponent and begins binding the wounds of the half-orc as he waits for the clerical healers to reach them. Tauron stands to acknowledge the cheers of the crowd and says "I am honoured to be the first victor in Ultrann's Arena. My opponent, Kulgarr, was a worthy foe. I look forward to my next battle!"

Kulgarr: 400 XP, 117 gp. A good start, but some surprise moves by your opponent and some bad luck did you in. Full healing (some more scars for your "collection").
