Historically, Argus is a very nationalistic and proud city. In their distant past they have clashed with nearby Airy and Emden, and at one time ruled over both. This military tradition has not been apparent for several generations. Today, Argus has long standing alliances with nearby Airy and Emden - they rely on Emden's access to trade and Airy's agriculture. As the nearby Tossian Empire is far too great to challenge, Argus and Thymiamata have had a history of competition. Although neither city is truly ruled by their native Prince, the long standing feud between the families of Prince Aaryyan of Argus and Prince Gartyani of Thymiamata has been used as conveniant motivation for small wars and skirmishes.

With the arrival of the Red men in Thymiamata (1880), friction between the two cities has been on the rise. The Americans are seen as a competative asset that Thymiamata has, and they do not. Furthermore, the advantage of human military technology is not lost on the once imperialistic Argusans. As a response, Argus has levied tariffs on Earth goods that pass through their city, and the upper class have made it known that human goods are distasteful to own. Still, trade with the humans of Thymiamata exists.
