History |
The Zanzania colony was concieved of just as the first African nations began to unify into what is now the UAN. Amidst much pomp and ceremony, the UAN launched the Aigle colony ship from high Earth orbit in 2087. The trip to Epsilon Indi proceeded with only one mishap - a large dust cloud pelted the ship with micrometorites, causing little damage other then destroying the primary communications antenna. Since most of the colonists were in suspended animation, little alarm was raised. The Zanzania colony was started on an Earth-like water world. Recently, conflict has arisen from the small FSA colony of Zydeco. This colony, mostly comprised of settlers from the Southern District, has been set up in a small chain of islands seperated by a shallow, marshy sea. The UAN sees this as an FSA claim to valuable landmass, and a threat to their territory and ecology. |

Description of Colony |
Zanzania is often called the "Paradise World". It has a constantly warm temperate climate and is covered with 91% water. Most of the dry land is found in the Bete' archipelago which consists of six large islands, the largest of which is slightly larger then the island of Japan. The Bete' colony consists of a dozen small towns linked by a shared power, communications and waterborne transit system. In the event of an emergency, each town can become self-sufficient for nearly a year (at a reduced capacity of course). The only other surface colony is the FSA's Zydeco colony, about 1,200 km. South of the Bete' archipelago. This colony resides on a large shallow sea (average depth of 10 feet) with hundreds of small islands (most not consistantly above the surface of the water). Three floating colonies (two Nihojin and one AU) also exist. The two Nihojin colonies (Ichi and Nee) are anchored and stabelized, wheras the AU colony (Bubbletown) is essentially a gigantic mobile ship (sometimes several ships). |

Population Breakdown |
Zanzania has a healthy population that has taken advantage of the ideal living conditions. Most of them are decendants of the original colony crew - mostly from Southern Africa. Due to the watery conditions, a large number of Nihojin and Australian colonists have set up small settlements. These are typically of the floating island or undersea habitat type, and so there is little conflict with the older UAN settlements. The FSA has also set up the small company colony of Zydeco on a small, mostly flooded archipelago. 120,000 total |
