Special thanks to Mark de Harte from the Trinity forums for his work on African languages and beliefs that formed and inspired the majority of this article leaving me to do mere editing to fit it into my game. The original forum text is included here.

United African Nations

History

Historically, Africa has been a continent in turmoil, more so then any other in the pre-modern world. Racial violence coupled with the lasting effects of powerful European country's dominance created a chaotic continent.

Africa wasn't perfect after the Abberant war. I'd think having major powers arise would be interesting. For Example, I'd Imagine South Africa staying the power in the South, The East African Union (Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, which could in fact even join in the modern age), Egypt and Nigeria. I can see these countries actually making war on other countries around them, and these wars are what made union so easy. Without Looking at a Map, I can see South Afica expanding it's coastlines on both sides of Africa which would give it powerful trade advantages, also Bantuization would be weak in this country considering many Europeans had fled their during the Abberant war. East Africa Union, would odviously for this matter want access to the other side of Africa and would invade the Congo. These chain reactions would get worse, with trade becoming a major focus. Due to the highly African population in these areas as well, Kiswahilli would be spread to the other parts of Africa. Egypt, wanting control of much of European Trade, would be likely involved in taking over territory in North Africa for oil and a longer coast. Also it should be noted, not to much would change under Egyptian rule other then North Africa being more united under one government. Nigeria, being surrounded by Small countries could spread across the edge of Africa's bulge with little trouble. The language problem would be extreme in this area, probubly more so then in the Congo. Despite needs for Bantuization English would remain offical along with French by default.

When the UAN itself would get formed though. It would need to work like a United Nations of sorts. So I think that maybe having the UAN languages be English, French, Afikaans, Arabic and Kiswahilli would make sense. Writing though could probably be agreed on. Since their are only three main writing systems in use in Africa, and two of them aren't from Africa, the African one would make the most sense. So Ge'ez would be used to write all of these languages, more then likely, but it would have to fall into favor slowly and would be taught in schools as a second alphabet.

Now, since the place is united and more "Bantuized" then it is now I thought some major changes would be in order. In the 50's Kenya tried to used Ge'ez script, which is used to write Amharic, to write Swahili but as to few people used Swahili the idea was scrapped. Ge'ez is being used now though for most African languages and Lativan writting has become extremely un-common. Each section of Africa is divided into largely independent counties. Each county has a governor, and an amount of senate representatives depending on population. These people answer to their respective area's of the country. These areas are ruled over by a President and Two council men. These presidents and council men make up the UAN governments senate as a whole. This government is ruled over by a Prime Minister who is elected in 5 year terms. The government doesn't have any main parties and this leads to very little getting done on the larger scale, fortunately millary is controlled by the Prime minister and senate. Local laws are more common then Federal laws, and the only law enforcement agencies the UAN central government is allowed to have are- The UAN internal security force, which stops criminals from attempting to flee to another part of Africa to hide from local authorites and the UAN WaTesa who are in charge of making sure that the money stays in the system properly.

Description of Country

North Africa, is very Muslim based and hasn't changed much in the last 200 years, except that the countries economies are mostly manufacturing, especially in the desert regions. The main language of communication remains Arabic here. The north maintains a strong military force Southwest of the Sinai peninsula to keep the UAN isolated from chaos of the Middle East. Although not a tightly controlled as Nippon's or Israel's borders, this is not a line to cross lightly.

West Africa has fared a bit different. Due to the spread of Swahili inland, it eventually reached West Africa as a heavily accented version of it borrowing heavily from Hausa, Ebo and Wolof for many of it's words. This area is highly buisness like, and can be compared to the Wall Street of Old America.

Central Africa remains a tough land. Though Swahili spread through the jungle, Abberants spread through there to, and many are suspected to live deep in the rainforest. The area is extremely well preserved, almost to rival Brazil. The majority of people here are housed in small villages to keep the jungle's safe.

East Africa would be the culture Basket of Africa, with Swahili spreading from there and a majority of major fashions coming from Addis Ababa and Nairobi. This makes the area very city like and urban cultured.

Southern Africa, has resisted Swahili speaking the most. Zulu and Xhosa have mixed strongly with English and Afrikaans to make an odd language called "Isizunguni". The non-Bantu San people have also risen to promenance in the Southern Parts of Africa. Mineral resources and mining are very common here as well.

Botswana has always been

Note that Kiswahili is the most widely spoken native language in Africa. The next would either be Amharic or Zulu. Numbers wise about 53 million people speak Kiswahilli, most of the other common languages of Africa number less then 30 million. So I'd think Kiswahili would replace English and Portugese in the East and Central parts of Africa entirely. Kiswahili was originally only spoken on the East Coast of Africa, but even in modern times has spread all the way into the Congo. With that in mind, it should also be noted that Bantuization would have nearly been accomplished.
