Nuevo Aberrants

"The young always have the same problem—how to rebel and conform at the same time. They have now solved this by defying their parents and copying one another."

Quentin Crisp (b. 1908)

Alex "Condor" Castana, self-proclaimed leader of the Rio Nuevo Aberrants

Although widely disparate over the years, youthful trends tend to revolve around the same central themes. One main reoccurring theme is the rebellion against parents or the status-quo. As a growing trend centered on the youth of South America, this rebellion has taken the shape of emulating the most socially unacceptable beings - Aberrants.

The Nuevo Aberrant movement arose in Brasil - primarily amongst disaffected upper middle class children. These were adolescents with few worries, and plenty of money and time. Following the Aberrant icon gave them a common image that was considered "racy" or edge that parents typically disapproved of. Thanks to prodigious OPNET sites, the movement has spread to the UAN and even parts of Nippon.

The primary theme to the Nuevo Aberrants is to look and act like and Aberrant. Adherents are rift with tatoos and piercings, and typically wear clothes that are designed to make the wearer appear non-human (tights, furs, leathers and snake-skin clothing and so on). Nuevo Aberrants of means also purchase skin grafts and specialty bioware that further distort their humanity. Rolls of snake skin applique, horn and tooth grafts and feathery pelts can be found in your average youth-centric store.

Most Nuevo Aberrants are content to dress up in costumes, hang out, listen to music and write bad poetry. Some extreme groups spend hours working out or taking "mind expanding" drugs (and writing bad poetry) in order to emulate their icons. The movement has caused a demand for Aberrant paraphernalia, especially "authentic" items from the year 2000 - 2060. This has also created a market for clever forgeries and knock-off items.

The Nuevo Aberrant movement is fairly benign. Other then petty vandalism, drug use and a few fights, there have been few serious incidents. Nuevo Aberrants are more likely to hurt themselves then anyone else. Such is the case of Pablos "Chromas" Carrevera who died from an allergic reaction to a black market chrome-skin tatoo or Melane "La Cabeza" Estes who is still in a coma after ODing on psycho-active drugs.
