Highlights from
ARTEPLAGE MURTEN-MORAT
THE MONOLITH
I was at EXPO-02 Arteplage-MURTEN on a beautiful
sunny day and wanted to visit the MONOLITH,
the strange looking, rusted steel cube floating
200 meters offshore.
At the beginning of the queue for the boat,
75 minutes waiting time was indicated..
It was a mistake (One should visit the Monolith
either on a rainy day or buy a special reservation
ticket - that I learned later).
Waiting at the queue 50 minutes to get to the boat,
then 35 minutes at the ground floor watching
the panoramic slide show
and another 25 minutes before the stairs
at the upper floor looking at Murten
through the perforated steel plates,
finally, after nearly 2 hours, I reached the glorious
111 m long and 10.5 m high panorama of
the BATTLE OF MURTEN
which took place on
June 22, 1476
I was amazed with the magnificient painting and,
in spite of the opposition of my legs, I decided
to create a digital copy of that.
During the next 30 minutes, fighting with the crowd
(the second battle of Murten, dated 19.07.2002 !!)
to get proper view point for each segment, I managed
to take 53 digital photos with 1024x768 format
(300-350 KB each).
Then, at home, with a tedious cut and paste process,
I created the digital panorama.. Unfortunately, either
the photo proceessors I have or my PC system could
not handle a picture longer than 10000 dots, I had
to reduce the size of each photo to 640x480, then I
could paste them to each other. The resultant panorama
photo has 7736x566 dots and it is about 1.2 MB in size.
Assuming somebody would like to have a copy of
the panorama, I am putting 1/4 sized (1934x142 dots with
107 KB ) copy of the panorama, in order to shorten
the downloding time..
One can see 1/2 sized (3868x283 dots with 376 KB)
copy of the panorama by clicking on the following image.

If you are interested in having the full size panorama
or any segment of it (denoted by the segment indicators
I have added to the 1/2 sized panorama),
I shall gladly send them by e-mail.

The other interesting pavillon at Murten is:
THE BLIND COW
That is what one can see in there...
