Niterói

The origins of this ship is full of controversy. There are doubts whether the ship was constructed by the Portuguese shipyards or bought abroad. Her first appearance with the name of Sucesso was in naval demonstration over river Tejo in 1818. On this occasion a mutiny ocurred aboard the ship. From this point forth the vessel became  famous  for her bad lucky.

When Brazil Became independent, the ship was named Niterói, taking part in some combats against the Portuguese ships. On May 4, 1823 the ship engaged in combat the Portuguese Fleet along the coast of Bahia. Then, she was designed to pursuit the Portuguese vessels on July 2. During the Cisplatine War, the ship had a remarkable performance when she put out of combat  the Argentinean Flagship 25 de Mayo during the combat of Lara-Quilmes on July 29 and 30,1826. She was decomissioned in 1836.
